SOUTHERN ILL I NO I SAN, WEDNESDAY, OCT. 19, 1977 Page Seven I homDso.ni BOOB XsVN Ss thompson Springfield (AP) Taxpayers will foot the bills for a three-day excursion by Gov. James Thompson to western Illinois, which an aide describes as similar to a trip Thompson took while cam- paigning for governor last But James; Skilbeck described the western Illinois journey, which' begin? tonight, as Skilbeck, a press spokesman, "said the trip is. a chance for the people of western Illinois to get a rare glimpse of the state's chief executive 'in an off-election year." The 425-mile, 12-county road trip will take Thompson by auto from Springfield as far as historic Galena in the northwest corner of the state, and as far west as Quincy. Scheduled throughout the journey are events that make good human photographs, good television and good publicity.

Thompson is scheduled -to drink coffee with farmers in Mount Carroll, watch grain being loaded at Liberty, have dinner at a Hardin bar, take a nine-mile boat ride on the Mississippi River at Kampsville and do some antiquing in Alton with his wife, Jayne. Skilbeck says the trip will cost between $1,000 and $1,500 and be paid by taxpayers, even though he says it is similar to a trip Thompson took along the eastern border of Illinois during his highly successful 1976 campaign. That trip was paid for out of campaign funds. Reporters have been invited to travel with the governor, paying for their own hotel rooms, meals and chartered flight Friday morning from the Quad Cities Airport to Fort Madison, Iowa. Overnight stops are planned in Dixon, Moline and at Pere Marquette State Park along the Mississippi and Illinois rivers near Grafton.

(AP) I i gators checked fingerprints and dental records today after a body in a cornfield was tentatively identified as that of a college coed whose disappearance prompted the people of her hometown to undertake a nationwide search. An autopsy also was being performed to determine the cause of death. Ann Louise Harmeier, 20, of Cambridge City, was last seen Sept.

12 while on her way to Indiana University. Morgan County Coroner James Summers said he couldn't determine'whether the young' woman was slain because the body, found Tuesday "was so badly. decomposed." State police said they found a shoe string and a hairbrush around the young woman's neck, leading them to believe she might have been strangled. The remains were found by a farmer harvesting corn five miles from where Miss Harmeier disappeared along a state highway while she was driving to school in Bloom-ington. Her car, its parking lights blinking, was found along the highway two miles north of here.

The people of Cambridge City mounted a community effort in the search for the coed, spreading bumper stickers, posters and billboards across southern Indiana. Truckers distributed thousands of posters with Miss Harmeier's picture throughout the nation. A citizens' committee collected more than $10,000 in pledges and $5,000 in cash to pay for the advertising blitz and a reward fund. Admirers of the bachelor prince, the most dogged of them elderly women, waited patiently along guarded walkways for his arrival.

Charles opened his visit with an off-the-record press reception at the Drake Hotel. Sipping a gin and tonic, he moved gracefully around the new Avenue One Room restaurant at the Drake, followed closely by Peter Jay, British Ambassador to the United States, greeting each guest in turn. Most of the guests forgot they should, address him as "Your Royal Highness," and came out with ''Prince Charles" instead, and no one curtsied. Chicago (AP) -Emily Mittl stood in the floodlights of the hotel entrance as Prince Charles, heir to the throne of Great Britain, swept away in a white Lincoln. 'Shorter.

He's shorter than I thought he'd be," said the middle-aged woman, standing on the red carpet as police swirled around her. She clutched a plastic tote bag commemorating the Silver Jubilee. 'Maybe it was just that the security guards were so tall. "But oh, he's charming. Handsome.

And such beautiful blue eyes. Some girl's going to be lucky to get him."
