ballots for secretary of state making eight in all since the start Wednes day had failed to secure a choice the legislators lost their patience this afternoon and voted to adjourn until 10 riday morning This ses sion was pleasing to the Democrats as the member who had ben bolting the ticket came back Into the fold and on three of the ballots today John Bunker of Bar Harbor the Democratic candidates received 90 and on three also Joseph Alexan der the Republican candidate re ceived 85 On the third vote of the afternoon Mr Bunker I received 89 and Mr Alexander 86but this was considered either as a (mistake or a joke as on the next ballot the old figures turned up The method of voting was changed today the ballot box being placed at the front and as the name of each member was called he walked ward and deposited his ballot tended to keep the alignment of all the parties as it would have been very difficult for any member to have concealed for whom he was voting The ballots were small printed slips and had to be pretty well exposed when slipped into the box sq that some member of the committee was pretty sure to see the name on the ballot This way of voting averaged about 45 petition of Peter Harmon of Thorndike Dem who is contesting the seat of James A Clem ent in the legislative class of seven towns The hearlng attracted a great deal of attention as it is the first of the two so far and the result may break the deadlock in the house Mr Harmon is represented by Pattangall of Waterville and Thomas Leigh of Augusta and Mr Clement by rank Dutton of Augusta The committee first met in the legal affairs room but this was not large enough so It adjourned tozthe senate chamber Governor Curtis attended the meeting and greater part of Chairman Read State burst tee
