28, 2002, in Fountains Nursing Care Center of Marion. Harvey R. Brake DAHLGREN Mr. Harvey R. Brake, 85, died at 11:33 a.m.

Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at the Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, Ind. He was born in Jefferson County on Aug. 4, 1917, to John and Nona (Wells) Brake. He married Getrude E.

Goin on Dec. 25, 1937. She preceded him in death on May 10, 2002. Mr. Brake was a retired welder for the Sohio Pipeline Company and worked on many projects, including the Alaskan Pipeline project.

He was a World War II veteran of the US Navy, a member of American Legion Post 106, served as Secretary of the Sugar Camp Cemetery Board for several years and was a Protestant by faith. He is survived by one son, Mr. Richard Brake and his wife Barbara of Marion; two grandchildren, Brenda and husband John L. Jones of Houston, Texas, and Patty and husband Ralph Lemongelli of Jefferson City, two greatgrandchildren, Joelle and Page Lemongelli of Houston, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at the Gholson Funeral Home in Dahlgren, with Rev. Mary Erwin and Rev. Carol Gericke officiating.

Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 106. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Dahlgren. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, at the funeral home.

6. FELONY DISPOSITIONS Dec. 2 Shaneedra Cole, 2315 Commercial Murphysboro, was charged with deceptive practice. Charges were dismissed, restitution made to businesses. Christopher C.

Smith, 1304 Burgess, Johnston City, was charged with aggravated domestic battery. Charges were dismissed. Freddie Steward, 408 Mound City Road, West Memphis, Ark. Was charged with fraudulent permit. Charges were dismissed.

George T. Rhodes, 1208 W. Cherry St, Marion, was charged with aggravated fleeint, or attempt to elude a police officer, criminal damage to government supported property and reckless conduct. He pleaded guilty to the attempt to elude a police officer charge and was sentenced to 24 months probation Was ordered to submit to DNA testing and pay for the testing. Restitution to be determined at later date.

The other two charges were dismissed. Dec. 3 Dustin Zeller, 12150 Songbird Road, Marion, was charged with aggravated DUI. Charges were dismissed. Victoria Kennedy, 410 S.

Commercial, Benton was charged with two counts criminal trespass to residence. Count 1 was dismissed. She was found guilty on count 2 and was sentenced to six months conditions' discharge. She was ordered to pay costs and" have no contact with victim. Dec.

5 Brandon H.Trovillion, 510 E. Illinois, Carterville, was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis sativa plant. He was found guilty and was sentenced to 24 months probation. He was ordered to pay a $500 fine. The defendant is to pay a street value fine of $95.

He shall submit to periods drug testing and shall perform 30 hours of community service work. Dec. 6 Charles S. Foote, 1 5998 Collins Road, Johnston City, was charged with aggravated DUI. Charges were dismissed.

Kim Reagan, 872 County Road, Norris City was charged with deceptive practice. Charges were dismissed, restitution made to businesses. Jennifer Evrard, 1922 Pierre Drive, Marion; was charged with obstructing justice. She pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 24 months probation. She was ordered to pay a $300 fine plus costs and surcharges.

Plus serve 25 weekends in the Williamson County Jail. Richard K. Cooper, address not stated, was charged with unlawful criminal drug conspiracy. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 48 months probation. He was ordered to pay a $500 fine plus costs and surcharges.

He was ordered to pay a $2000 drug assessment. He was ordered to get a drug abuse assessment and complete treatment. Dec. 9 David W. Holshouser, 842 Jodi Lane, Marion, was charged with two counts aggravated DUI.

On count 1, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 24 months probation. He was ordered to pay a $1,500 plus costs and surcharges. He was ordered to serve 1 80 days in the Williamson County Jail. Count 2 was dismissed. Dec.

10 Carl Tyson Stokes, 22472 Miles Trail Road, Stonefort, was charged with theft. Charges were dismissed. Dec. 11 Tamra S. Arron, 13714 Pittsburg Road, Marion, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

She was found guilty on the possession of controlled substance charge and was sentenced to 24 months probation. She was ordered to pay a $250 fine a VCV fine of $20, a $15 drug fine. Was ordered to have periodic drug testing. Plus perform 30 hours of community service. Defendant shall undergo a drug abuse evaluation and shall enroll and complete any treatment.

The drug paraphernalia charge was dismissed. Dec. 13 Murray Hawkins 601 W. Boyton St, Marion, was charged with possession of cannabis. Charges were dismissed.

Hickory De Soto: was charged with aggravated fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, driving while license revoked (enhanced sentence), and traffic charges of operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and disobeying a stop sign. He was released after posting $2,500 bond. First court appearance set for 9 a.m. Jan.

15. Dec. 17 Thomas M. McKenzie, 32, of 409 W. South Pinckneyville: aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and misdemeanor charges of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of cannabis and was released after posting $1,000 bond.

Hartman, 33, of 1 19 N. Chestnut Du Quoin: pleaded guilty to attempted burglary and was sentenced to 30 months conditional discharge and ordered to report once to the Perry County Probation Department and pay $200 total fines and costs. He was also sentenced to 92 days in the Perry County Jail, found satisfied. Gladys M. Porter MARION Gladys M.

Porter, 87, died at 8:01 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2002, at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion. She was born Feb. 14, 1915, in Jefferson County, to Thomas Newton Hughey and Grace Ellen (McKee) Hughey.

She married Everett L. Porter on March, 22, 1932, in Mount Vernon. He died on Sept. 5, 1981. She is survived by two sons, Everett Eugene Porter of Mount Vernon and Leslie A.

Porter of Marion; eight grandchildren, David Porter, Judy Loss, Valeria Loss, Valetta Loss, Jeffrey Porter, Gregory Porter, Timothy Porter and Christopher Porter; one brother, John R. Hughey, of Mount Vernon; one sister, Mary Lou Dixon and husband Stanton of Fairbury; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, Joyce Porter, one grandson, Michael Loss; three brothers and two sisters. She was of the Baptist Faith. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m.

Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with Rev. Merle Fullerton officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation was from 5 to 8 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 29. Danielle Cemone Richardson SPARTA Danielle Cemone Richardson, a stillbirth, died at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at the Sparta Community Hospital.

She is survived by her parents, Daniel Richardson and Monica Tedrow of Sparta; one brother, Donavan Terrel Richardson of Chester; paternal grandparents, Edward and Shirley Richardson of Sparta; maternal grandmother, JoAnne and husband Sherwin Ernsting of Steeleville; and maternal grandfather, Rick Godier of Red Bud. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Sparta with Rev. Edward Richardson officiating.

Gertrude Broviak, 88, died at 9:50 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at the Kindred Hospital in St. Louis. Services will be at 10 a.m.

Tuesday at the St. Michael Catholic Church in Radom, with Father Bert Iffert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Zachary Cox HERRIN Zachary Cox has been awarded an Engineering Partnership and a Recognition Award at Murray State University. Cox, the son of David and Kathy Cox of Herrin, is a 2002 graduate of Herrin High School and is an engineering physics major at MSU. Alicia Loucks HERRIN Alicia Loucks of Herrin was awarded the Dr. Morton B. Harris Scholarship.

He was born on May 10, 1917, in Marion, the son ofOllie and Eddie Lee (Estes) Parton. Charles was first united in marriage to Parton Lois Dean Craig on Dec. 31, 1937, in Kentucky. Together they enjoyed twenty-one years until her death came on March 7, 1958. He later was united in marriage to Opal Adkins on June 15, 1962, and together they enjoyed twenty-two years of marriage until her death came on March 21, 1984.

He later married Jewell Wilson on March 21, 1987, in Carbondale, and together they enjoyed nine years, until her death came on March 8, 1996. His working career was in the coal mining business with his brothers, Ben and Herman Parton. Together they owned and operated "Parton Coal Company" located near Crab Orchard, from 1956 to 1969. Charles later worked for Old Ben Mine NO. 24 near Benton, until his retirement in 1979.

Charles was of the Protestant faith and was a former member of South Monroe Street Church of God of West Frankfort. He also was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. Charles loved the outdoors and all GOD had created for his enjoyment. He was an avid hunter, especially goose and deer. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and playing golf.

He also was a former Republican Precinct Committeeman of West Frankfort. But most of all Charles, loved his church and all the time that he spent with his family, that he was so proud of. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charles D. and Jeanette Parton of Marion; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Dwight Smothers of West Frankfort, and Jo and Mike Tate of Noblesville, two stepdaughters, Linda Swope and her husband, Jim, of Jackson, and Phyllis Sims, and her husband, Bud, of Park Forest; step-son, Tom Adkins and his wife, Julie, of West Frankfort; sister, Helen Parks of the Arnold View area, located south of Crab Orchard; seven grandchildren, Jeff Parton of Marion, Jennifer Melcher and her husband, Mark, of Marion, Angie Mohring and her husband, John, of West Frankfort, Paula Whobrey and her husband, Allen, of Christopher, Brent Smothers of Dallas, Texas, Scott Tate and his wife, Kathy, of Indianapolis, and Shawn Tate of Indianapolis, six great-grandchildren, Alexis Melcher, Shaydie Mohring, Delta Mohring, Jerid Thompson, Courtney Tate and Alexandria Tate; six step-grandchildren, several step-great-grandchildren; good friend and caregiver, Debbie Logsdon of Johnston City, and numerous other family members and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three wives; three sisters, Opal Kelly, Ethel Sullivan and Eva Davis; and three brothers, Ben Parton, Fred Parton and Herman Parton.

The funeral service for Charles S. Parton, Sr. will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2002, in Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home with Rev.

Don Burroughs and Rev. Vernell Clark officiating. Interment will follow in Busby Cemetery of Goreville. The time of visitation will be after 5 p.m. Monday, Dec.

30, 2002, after 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Virgil King FERGES Virgil R. King, 46, died at 3:49 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at the Herrin Hospital in Herrin. Arrangements are incomplete at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin.

i survived by one son, Johnathan Sargent of West Frankfort; his father and step-mother, John and Barbara Sargent Sargent of West Frankfort; a sister, Mary Gosney and husband Steve of West Frankfort; and three brothers, Ed McReynolds and wife Teddie of Alton, John McReynolds and wife Michelle of West Frankfort, and Bill McReynolds and wife Colleen of Clearwater, Fla. He is also survived by his former wife Melissa and her daughters Alecia McDonough and Nikki Franpton and grandmothers Ruby Yurina and Mary Sharp, all of West Frankfort; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Brandon. He was employed at Odum's Concrete in West City as a dispatcher and a member of the Teamster Local Union 347 in West Frankfort. Funeral services for William Scott Sargent will be at 11 a.m.

Wednesday Jan. 1, 2003 at the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home, with The Rev. Jon Griffin officiating. Burial will be in the Boner Cemetery in West Frankfort. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m.

Saturday, Dec. 28, 2002, at her home. She was born in West Frankfort, Nov. 9, 1922. She was united in marriage to Clifford EUis.

He preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1987. Ellis She is survived by seven daughters, Betty Cauble of Pomona and Mary Cripps of Pomona, Debbie Gearhart of Pomona, Shirley Gee of Makanda, Cathy Sanders of De Soto, Emma Sanders of Pomona, and Linda Zimmerman of Peotone, three sons Bob Ellis, Eugene Ellis, and Mike Ellis, all of Pomona; five brothers; three sisters; 28 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three children, Carolyn, Sharon, and Diane; and two brothers. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m.

Monday, Dec. 30. i employee at ABC Liquor Mart in Carbondale refused to accept the check and notified police. Rogers was located, arrested and taken to Jackson County Jail. She was later released on bond.

Linda Rush Du Quoin arrests DU QUOIN A couple of Du Quoin residents were arrested last week for allegedly battering each other. Shawn Cole, 24, and Rebecca Young, 19, were both arrested by Du Quoin police at 5 p.m. Tuesday on charges of domestic battery. They were taken to the Perry County Jail. Rathert of Carbondale reported that someone entered his car via a faulty door between 6 and 7 p.m. Thursday at 1237 E. Main St; Items take include cash, prescription medicine and CDs, with total loss estimated at $80. Forgery charges CARBONDALE Artelia Laverne Rogers, 18, of 2417 New Era Road, No. 38, Carbondale, was charged with forgery after attempting to purchase liquor using a check made out in the name of Michael Peebles, Carbondale police reported Friday.
