made through Sir Henry Chilton the British Ambassador in Spain who is at Hendaye on the French frontier He has been instructed to address a vigorous protest to the insurgent authorities at Salamanca (which became the headquarters after tiie move from Burgos) at the violation of the safetv zone in Madrid in which the British Embassy buildings are situated and which they had undertaken to respect The protest has been made following the news that eight incendiary and high explosive bombs were yesterday dropped on the British Embassy the Embassy annexe and the buildings con-tainingConsular offices and flats and also upon a house opposite which is used in connection with the Embassy Union Jack on Roof Two British subjects were wounded when the bombs were Capt Lance who is an honorary
