Notes Of Servicemen Thursday, Jan. 19, 1967 Algena (la.) Upper DCS Moinet-5 RICHARD LOEBIG SAN DIEGO, CALIF., Dec. 15 — Marine Private Richard A. Loebig, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin B. Loebig of Wesley, was graduated from eight weeks of recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot here. He will now undergo about three weeks of individual combat training and then, after leave at home, will report to his first Marine Corps assignment. The intensified Marine recruit training emphasizes rigid physical conditioning and survival techniques, both at sea and ashore, to develop self-confidence and endurance. Marksmanship with the M-14 rifle and 45-calibre pistol are equally stressed, and close order drill instills the traditions of Marine Corps teamwork. - o- FT. HUACHUCA, ARIZ. - Private George A. Bierstedt, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hilbert G. A. Bierstedt, Whittemore, completed a radio course at the Army Training Center, Ft. Huachuca, Ariz., Jan. 13. During the 10-week course, he received instruction in basic radio and electrical theory and was taught the international Morse code. His wife, Karen, lives in Ottosen. -0 U. S. ARMY, VIETNAM — Richard L. Cushman, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mylle M. Cushman, Titonka was promoted Dec. 20 to Army specialist fourth class in Vietnam where he is assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. Spec. Cushman, a machine gunner in Company A, 2d Battalion of the division's 327th Infantry, entered the Army in December 1965 and arrived overseas in June 1966. Kossuth Demo Women To Meet The Kossuth County Democratic Women's Club is holding a meeting January 17th (Tuesday) at the Moose Hall in Algona starting at 7:30 p.m. All members are urged to attend this important meeting and anyone interested in joining are cordially invited to attend. Carmen Larsen Of Swea City Recent Bride SWEA-EAGLE — Carmen Sue Larsen and John Ross Farwell, Cedar Rapids, were united in marriage at 4 p. m., Dec. 26, at the Immanuel Lutheran church, Swea City. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Harvey C. Larsen, Armstrong, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack E. Farwell, Cedar Rapids. Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated at the double ring ceremony. A program of nuptial music was furnished by Paulette Kracht at the organ, and Marilyn Farwell of Fon du Lac, Wise., cousin of the groom, and Caryl Larsen, sister of the bride, soloists. Caryl Larsen, sister of the bride, was maid of honor; bridesmaids were Mrs. Michael Stewart, Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Loren Kylle, Minneapolis, Minn. Beth Kopecky, Milwaukee, Wise., niece of the groom served as flower girl, and Mrs. Richard Harrison, Racine, Wise., was the bride's personal attendant. Candlelighters were Julie Larsen, sister of the bride, and John Goraczkowski, cousin of the bride. Paul Olsen was best man, and groomsmen were James Larsen, brother of the bride, and Richard Bixby. Rlngbearer was Steve Holcomb, cousin of the bride. Ushers were James Larsen, Roger Holcomb, Richard Bixby and Jerry Thompson. A reception for 250 guests was held at the social hall of the church. Mrs. Farwell is a graduate of Swea City High School, and St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn. The groom is a graduate of La Crosse, Wise. University. Both are employed in the school at Manitowoc, Wise., where they will be at home. - o - PRE-NUPTIAL HONORS Mr. and Mrs. Jack E. Farwell of Cedar Rapids, were hosts at a luncheon at Immanuel Lutheran church, Swea City, after the rehearsal of the wedding of their son, John, and Carmen Larsen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey C. Larsen, the morning of Dec. 26. Miss Larsen was honored with a pre-nuptial shower at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Orville Thoreson, Dec. 23. A 9:30 brunch was served. Twenty friends and relatives were present. - o- The Gene Thompsons and family returned Friday evening after a visit with his brother and family, the John Thompsons at Ozona, Tex. They stopped enroute home to visit the Dean Olsons at Topeka, Kans.
