ii As the New Year dawns custom has made it good form to say "Thank You!" We say it this year with greater thankfulness than ever before, because we have closed the most noteworthy year in the store's history. The making of good resolutions at New year time is also a time-honored custom. Ovr resolution is to serve you better! The store never stands still. We are not content with the position we hold, no how high, in your estimation. We must and shall move onward with constant, vigorous effort for improvement, allowing no relaxation in the work of making this housje the.

At the Emporium department store last evening the congregation of the Trinity M. E. church at Merriam Park was awarded the fine upright piano offered by the proprietors in the contest started some four months ago. Mrs. Isaac Bower was a close second.

The other prizes included a fine silk corset, a gold watch and $5 in gold, but at a late hour the judges were unable to name the winners because of the immense number of tickets to count. The size of the contest can be imagined when it is known that the judges had to count individually numbered tickets. FOR. TWO WOMEN CAUGHT EMPIRE FINED Others Plead Not Guilty and Will Be Tried Under the Ordinance. The seven women and three men caught in the police net during a raid on the Empire theater Tuesday night were in police court yesterday, all of them pleading not guilty, except two of the women, who gave their names as Mabel Clark and Annie Young. They pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and were fined $5 each. Bail for the others was fixed at $25 each, and was furnished by Anton Weinholzer, the proprietor of the Empire.

Harvey Hall appeared as attorney for all of them, and the cases were continued until Friday. John Haskel, one of the men arrested, was also charged with vagrancy.
