replacement surgery will take the mound Thursday night when Macon finishes up a four game series at Savannah ive days ago Smoltz made a suc cessful four inning rehab start for Class AA Greenville If he pitches well for the Braves he could be back in the majors with Atlanta by next weekend This will be third start as a Macon Braves He made a pair of rehab starts for Macon in 1999 both of which drew near sellout crowds This time Savannah will get the benefit as Macon return home until riday Auto Racing Texas Motor Speedway sued CART on Tuesday seeking millions of dollars that were lost because of the last minute cancella tion of a race The inaugural irestone ire hawk 600 was postponed just two hours befot it was to start because drivers com plained of dizziness I during practice when they reached speeds of more than 230 mph on the high banked track Eddie Gossage the general manag er said CART would have known about the potential problems had it done proper test ing The 24 degree banking is unprecedented for the Champ cars and contributed to the forces that made the drivers dizzy Gossage in letters and faxes to CART officials months before the event had questioned whether speeds of more than 230 mph would be safe in Texas He said he had been assured CART was ready to race at his track a UGA sports The 12th ranked Georgia Bulldogs won their 11th straight Tuesday
