THURSDAY, JUN6 If, IMS AU6NA (|«wa) MUSICAL IS GIVEN Students of Helen L. son gave a piano musicale for mothers at the Anderson home June 5. Students playing were Jenny Reding, Lane and Liane Treganza, Brenda and Pat Pras- er, Steven Armstrong, Virginia Schultz, LeeAnn and Douglas Schenck, Patty Bramsley, Zelda and Linda Meehlhause, Linda Siiodgress, Jean and Marilyn Dau, Lori Calhoun, Jamie Christie, Sandra Faulstich, Debbie Kelley, Linda Ruhnke, Becky Tielebein and Carol Gerike. An organ-piano duet was by Linda Ruhnke and Debbie Kelley. Organ solos were by Carol Gerike and Linda Ruhnke. Guest performer was Ricky Ringsdorf, pi- ano-acccordian student of Linda Meehlhause. Maria Wittkopf was unable to play the piano because of a sprained wrist. SHOWER GIVEN A miscellaneous and coin shower was held June 2 in the Trinity Lutheran church parlors for Mrs. Herbert Hobbs (in absentia). Mrs. Hobbs is the former Becky Wetzel, daughter of the Reinhard Wetzels. Hostesses were Mrs. Earl Jordan and Debbie Wetzel, sisters of the bride, and Mesdames Larry Householder, Dave Sweet and Victor Frideres. Mrs. Roger Fox had the guest book. Sisters of the bride opened the gifts and Mrs. Jerry McArthur recorded them. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hobbs were married May 2 in Reno, Nev., and are living at 2080 Magnolia Avenue, Long Beach, Calif. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hobbs, formerly of Algona. CAMP-OUT HELD Boy Scout troop 70 last week held a third weekend camp-out and another is planned for June 19-20. The troop will have a court of honor June 19 at the camp. There are 26 in the troop sponsored by the Rotary club, with Dick Beisell scoutmaster and Guy Giddings assistant. NINE ATTEND CAMP Nine Girl Scouts from troop 440 are attending Camp Gaywood at Clear Lake this week. They are Linda Reynolds, Barbara Cook, Barbara Dimond, Betty Reynolds, Mary Boudewyns, Joyce Goodman, Debra Specht, Sherry Knecht, and Phyllis Pentecost. CARD CLUB MEETS Mrs. Milton Dahl is entertaining the "Eight Specks" 500 club Wednesday evening. Engaged St. Joe — Mr. and Mrs. Hubert O'Brien announce the engagement of their daughter Mary Alma to Ronald Hejlik, <Algo- noV son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hejlik, Rockwell, Iowa. She is a 1961 Garrigan and '62 graduate of P. T. I., Omaha, and is a secretary at the Weidenhoff Corporation, Algona; He is a '60 graduate of Britt, '62 graduate of Hamilton Business College, Mason City, and is employed at the Thermogas Co., Algona, as office manager. The wedding will take place Aug. 7 at St. Joseph's Catholic church, St. Joe. ana Levy, Virginia Hardgrove, Becky Mino, Debbie Johnson, Jan Schultz and Marilyn Dau. BIRTHDAY OBSERVED Marcy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Moen, observed her. 13th birthday Monday, June 14, and had as guests at a slumber party JoEllen Pittman, Di- Peer places third in NCAA track meet Gary Peer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Corwin Peer, Algona, placed third in the college division in the NCAA track championships at Long Beach, Calif, last weekend. Peer won third place in the 440 Intermediate Hurdles with a time of :53, He won his opening heat Thursday and Friday and competed in the finals Saturday. His Luther college teammates compiled enough other points to put Luther in second place behind San Diego, Calif, in the meet. The Luther mile relay team also finished in fourth place in the meet and Peer ran a quarter mile in this event. He returned to Iowa Monday and will teach Lifesaving at Decorah this summer. Mrs. Glen Graham was hostess to her. birthday club Tuesday evening. The Rebekahs met Monday evening for a covered dish supper. ' • First band concert this Thursday The Algona Municipal Band, under the direction of Russell C. Guster, will give its first concert of the summer on Thursday, June 17th at 8 p.m. in the new parking lot on north Moore street. The program includes: Monahan Post, Unsinkable Molly Brown, Mystic Night, Man Of •The Hour,'Jalousie, In A Moonlit.
