News THE WELLINGTON (TEXAS) LEADER TtlUflJty, 1970 P. M. Simpson Returns to Observe 94th Birthday at Norwood Sunday The family of P. M. Simpson met Sunday, July 26, to honor him on his Mth birthday.

The event was held in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Mattie Garner of Samnorwood. The group had lunch at Community Park at Samnorwood and visited with friends who called to visit and congratulate the guest of honor, Charlie Myman, who had his 93rd birthday only was one of those who called, and the two spent considerable time reminiscing, Sunday night, part of the family met at the John Simpson home for visiting and ing. Mr. Simpson lived at norwood many years before ing to Aztec, New Mexico, 15 years ago to make his home with a daughter and son-in- law, Mr.

and Mrs. Leonard Crouch. He returns here regularly, however, to observe his birthdays. Mr. Simpson has eight children, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

CB Club Has lee Cream The Rolling Plains CB Radio Club held an ice cream supper Saturday night, August 1, in Ellison Park. Those attending were Hershel Pruitt, president, and Mr. and Mrs. Mike Gilmore, Mr. and Doc Turner, Mr.

and Mrs. Carroll Reynolds and Debbie, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnson, Mike and Randy, and Ken Southerland. The Maid of Cotton program is now in its 32nd year.

31st Annual Bledsoe-Curry Reunion Held in Wellington August Second The 31st annual Bledsoe and Curry reunion, one of the oldest family gatherings in area, was held Sunday, August 2 in the American Legion Hall. Held first in 1939 at Childress, the reunion continued through World War II. There has been only one year that it was not held, 1966, due to two deaths in the families shortly before the reunion date. Most of those present this year, except the children, form- Gift Planned for Navajo School The Ladies Council of First Christian Church met Monday, August 3 at 8:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall.

Plans were made for "Operation Toothbrush" through August. Mrs. Jess Wilson was hostess. Toothbrushes will be collected and sent to Navajo Christian Churches Boarding School in Rifle, Colorado. Members also decided to secure a bookcase for the Delma Neeley Memorial Library.

Nine new books have been added. The lesson, "How to Love People You Don't Like," was given by Mrs. Marvin Garrison. Those present were Mrs. Claud McMillin, Mrs.

Zook Thomas, Mrs. Jack Sanford, Mrs. Bill Lindsey, Mrs. Emil Kersten, Mrs. Ozro Bartlett, Mrs, Garrison, Mrs.

Winfield S. White was honored on her 80th birthday Sunday, August 2, at her home in the Kelley community. Her children were hosts: Mrs. Olaf W. (Beulah Mae) Harkleroad of Cotton Center; Mrs.

Robert S. (Helen) Foote of Frisco, Colorado; Mrs. Morris J. (Peggy) Holland of Wellington; Mrs. Robert I.

(Joanna) Bush of East Peoria, Illinois; Mrs. Joe W. Tarver (Virginia Nell) of Wellington; Austin T. White of Amarillo; John W. White of Wellington and Kelly White of Frisco, Colorado.

The latter was the only one unable to attend. Seated with Mrs. White to receive the guests were her two sisters, Mrs. J. W.

Chapman of Wellington and Mrs. Arthur Ford of Hale Center. The one hundred friends who called included many who see each other but rarely, and visiting, reminiscing and renewing friendships made this a festive occasion. The refreshment table was laid with a cutwork cloth and appointed in silver. Three granddaughters, Sallie Tarver, Shannon Holland and Cynthia Foote of Frisco, Colorado, served.

A Virginian, Mrs. White was born at Historic Roanoke. She was the former Ethel Mae Kesler, daughter of John and Fannie Kesler. She was only nine when the family moved to Texas and settled at Paris. In 1906 they moved to Collingsworth County and settled in the Kelley community and Mrs.

White has lived nowhere else. She attended school near Cooper and at Kelley. The community spirit that was strong in the Kesler family led her father to help in the organization of a the one she the Kelley Methodist Church which she attended until it was disbanded only a few years ago. She was married to Winfield S. White on April 2, 1911.

He, too, was a member of a family that was instrumental in the community's Mrs. White is still active in church work, attending regularly the services of First United Methodist Church in Wellington, and she is a life member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Growing flowers and working in her yard are Mrs. White's hobbies, and one of the marvels of the birthday party was that she has so many blooming in a summer that is so hot. Those coming from out of town to her party were Mr, and Mrs.

and Mrs, Cecil Masten, Rev. and Mrs. Dyess and Sam Dyess. Pattersons to Family Reunion A group of Wellington families attended the Patterson family reunion held July 24 through 26, at Cardinal Point on Eufala Lake, near McAlester, Okla. Going were Mr.

and Mrs. George Patterson, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Patterson and their grandchildren, Pam and Bart Patterson, and Mr. and Mrs.

Earl Patterson, Teresa, Kathy and Kirk. Approximately 85 family members attended. A fish fry from fish caught in the lake was a high point. Boating, fishing and skiing entertained the group. The reunion group were the descendants of sister and five brothers of the Patterson family.

Of that original family, only the Mrs. Laura Little of Kiowa, Oklahoma, survives, and she was present, along with a sister-in-law, Mrs. Minnie Patterson of Hobbs, N. M. The 1971 reunion will be held at Lake Eufala again, but at a different location.

James Sullivan and daughter, Phyllis, returned last week from Royalston, after spending about three weeks in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Chase.

Mrs. Lillian Williams Gregory of Pasadena visited in Wellington last week with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. A.

Williams. Guests in the home of Mrs. Nell Cook last week were her niece and family, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bouda, Allan and Worland of Tulsa.

Mrs. Mattie Balch has been in Amarillo for nine days visiting with her daughter and family, Mr, and Mrs. Curtis Brewer. Mr. and Mrs.

Lucian Bearden, Mrs. Quenton Brewer, Gary, George and Elizabeth, Mr. and Mrs. Doug Chauveaux of Canyon, and Linda Williams spent part of the week end at Lugert Lake. Mrs.

J. W. Canada has been visiting with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Mathews of Van Buren, Ark Then they went to a family reunion in Guthrie, Aug.

and Mrs. Woodrow Wood. Mr. and Mrs. Duncan have visiting with them now their grandchildren, Stacy and Randy Duncan of Seymour.

Company in the home of Mr and Mrs. S. W. Elbert recently were her son and family, Mr. and Mrs.

Garland Elbert of Amarillo. Ingram Family, Descendants of County Pioneers, Hold Reunion the second annual Ingrarn reunion was held Sunday, August 2 In Dura Hundley Community Center, and drew more of the family members than last year. It was an Informal event and eating and visiting provided the entertainment. These were the descendants of the late Mr. and Mrs.

W. S. Ingram, who came to Collingsworth County in the early 1890's. Two of their children survive, Mrs. E.

M. Cook, who was present, and Mrs. Rufus Nelson, who was unable to attend. The others were the dren and other descendants of this pioneer couple. Almost all except the young children had lived here.

Present were Mr. and Mrs. Wellington NWMS Studies Antilles The NWMS of the Wellington Church of the Nazarene met on Tuesday, July 28, for the regular meeting. Mrs. Leslie Moore, vice president, directed the meeting.

Mrs. Frank Falk led the sing- Ing with Mrs. Joe Harris accompanying on the piano. Prayer was given by Mrs. Oral Bishop and Mrs.

Philip Daniels the devotional. The lesson, "The Flourishing of the French Antilles" was given by Mrs. Harris. Minutes and the financial report were read by Mrs. Fred Yarbrough, secretary-treasurer.

Attending were Mrs. Rodell Byers, Mrs. Rosalie Roberson, Mrs. Yarbrough, Mrs. Falk, Mrs.

Family Honors Suzanne Floyd Adults of her family honored Suzanne Floyd on her second birthday Thursday, July 30. The party was held in the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Floyd. Birthday cake and ice cream were served.

Attending were a great-grandmother, Mrs. Bessie Vernon; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Brinkley and Mr. and Mrs.
