THURSDAY JULY 28 1966 NUMBER 20 New Haven Jaycees Salute The Youth This Week End The New Haven Jaycees salute the youth of the community at their fourth annual Youth air this Saturday and Sunday The community kids those in 4 JA Scouting Khoury and Little League softball will have their day in fact two during the the extravaganza The fair opens with the younger Khoury set the Atoms (ages 8 9) playing atom team at 1 pm Saturday Continuing action on the ball diamond the Girls Little League softballers will begin playing about 3 pm Other activities planned for Sunday afternoon include the 4 and JA Home Economics show in the Legion Home a gigantic balloon drop and air plane rides At the home ec show the 4 from the area clubs Campbellton Port Hudson St and New Haven and JA kids from New Haven and Campbellton will exhibit projects in clothing foods woodwork electricity and garden mg name management and home grounds improvements At 7 pm Sunday the Hawthorn Cubs softball nine will meet the Kirkwood McArthur Sports in an adult softball doubleheader Between the games a highlight of the fair the crowning of the fair queen will take place Contestants are from the 4 and JA clubs Prior to the starting of the softball game a Boy Scout color guard will raise the flag in centerfield The Scouts of area troops are being invited to participate in on Sunday afternoon The will i extend the Scouts in their skills Sunday afternoon is the livestock show The judging starts here at 1 pm At 3 pm a baseball contest for 13 14 15 year old boys will take place pitting the New Haven Mfg juvenile team against Owensville At 6 pm the community kids will tackle the greased pigs to see who brings home the bacon Always filled with laughs and spills and thrills the greased pig scramble 1 At 7 pm Sunday an original and leans" softball game had been planned Ibis however has been pre empted by a Khoury baseball game featuring the New Haven Lions and New Haven Jaycees At 8 pm on the outdoor rink to the west of the conces sion stand a teenage dance featuring will begain and last until midnight In case of rain the dance will be held in the Legion hall The Jaycees will be giving away over $300 in prize money during the two day event It will be divided among the participating 4 clubs the JA clubs Scouts and Khoury and softball kids And for patrons of the fair the Jaycees and Jaycee wives will again offer their famous barbecue and other delicacies at the food stand Primary Election Tuesday August 2 MEL CARNAHAN GENE SALLY county School Registration August 3 4 Law (Wimpy) the county ticket Benton is the incumbent from Crawford county but the 1964 primary re sults had Strauser giving a good account of himself as a Republican candidate for ranklin county representative Percy Pascoe Jr of Leasburg is the lone Demo cratic candidate in the 107th Wilbert Trentmann of Wash ington won the GOP primary in 1964 for ranklin county repre sentative and went down with many other Republicans in the November election 11115 time Trentmann is unopposed on the GOP slate in the 108th district which is comprised of most of ranklin county And face his same 1964 Democratic Registration of high school and all new elementary students who will enroll in New Haven high school this fall will take place on August 3 and 4 (Wednesday and Thursday) Superintendent Ben Ragland announced The enrollment will take place in the office between the hours of 9 and 4 Mr Ragland said that all new students are requested to bring birth certificates and immunization records The 1966 67 school term will begin on Monday August 29 However the local school will not be in ses sion on Labor Day Monday Sep tember 5 Ragland added that the elemen tary faculty is now complete with the signing of grade school princi pal William Kroeger Mr Kroeger from near Okeefe Okla taught last year at Southard in the Sooner state The grade school teaching staff: Kindergarten Mrs Wray Quick 1st grade Mrs Ray Stock 2nd County Clerk Ralph Smith an nounced that there are 17893 regis tered voters in ranklin county for the August 2 primary election Smith' who is voter registration officer completed the totals last week for the first registration ever required for ranklin county The registration deadline was July 5 however registrations will be accepted again beginning August 3 for the November election Voter registration was approved in the 1964 general election Regis tration was started in September of last year A total of 700 registered voters live in New Haven Other area registrations include Berger 365 Excelsior 157 Yeates 186 Gerald 629 Leslie 95 Beaufort Lyon 270 Detmold 157 Shop 119 Lyon 234 and Clover Bottom 105 There is an estimated 26000 eligible voters in the county This figure is based on the estimated grade Mrs Les Utnage Mrs Richard Herzog Mrs George Wilson Mrs Kenneth Wackher and 6th 7th and 8th grades Mrs Evelyn Stock Miss Bonnie Westermeyer Mr Scott Judy and Mr Kroeger There is still a vacancy in the high school faculty Mr Ragland said there was still an opening in the social studies department This past week Mr Les Utnage was hired to teach the new buildings trade class ber and
