In one of the break-ins, at the home of Dora Beck. 1420 Highland Ave., a $75 Elgin watch and a diamond ring plus $25 in half dollars and a $121 payroll check were stolen. The home was entered by a thief who broke the front door glass and then reached through and unlocked the door. In the other burglary, at the home of Elwood White of 903 Alton St., a boys 20-inch bike was taken and a 19-inch four cycle lawn mower. SIDE registration deadline Thursday EDWARDSVILLE Students admitted to Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville for the fall quarter beginning Sept. 19 must register Thursday if they are not already registered.
