Hire more new teachers for Algona schools The Board of Education of the Algona Community -school district met Tuesday evening. June 1, for the disposition of regular and.special school business. Teaching contracts were authorized for Miss Ruth Kuyper of Pella, Iowa, for art and English, Miss Eunice Peters of LeMars for elementary Vocal, Mr, David Lindholm of Livonib, Mich., for junior high English. Vacancies remain in the positions of intermediate grades, junior-senior high vocal and instrumental, and junior high English. Mr. Cliff Prall of Prall Architects of Des Moines was inter- Viewed ta regard to possible architectural services ih confiee- tioii with a possible building expansion program for the district within the next few years. Some of the major budgdt items for building repairs, build- ihg Maintenance, purchase df needed equipment were reviewed and approved. WC - Algona game rained out Friday The Webster City-Algona high school baseball game, the first home contest of the season for the Bulldogs, was postponed by Wet grounds Friday and has been re-scheduled for Monday, June 28 here at 6:30 p.m. The Bulldogs have three games this week — all away from honle. They start out with Eagle Grove at 8 p.m. Tuesday, LuVerne at 6 p.m. Wednesday and Hampton at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Adams, Algona, was elected as a new ftieftiber of the board. Also new board members are G. H. McCreery, general sales manager of Snap-On Tools, and P. J. Schutt, international sales manager of Snap-On. The Weidenhoff board is now composed of K. T. Peirce, president, E. H. Adams, vice-president, both of Algona; V. M. Cain, president of Snap-On; C. H. McCreery, general sales manager; R. G. Knudsen, director, all of Snap-On. Retiring directors of Weiden- hoff were T. N. Glenn, vice- president Snap-On, and Rod Palmer, senior vice-president Snap-On. Other officers of Weidenhoff in addition to; Peirce and Adams, are Elmer Walter, plant manager, Kermit Caves, Kenosha, secretary (also secretary of Snap-On), M. M. Sloniker, asst- secretary. The Snap-On Tools Corp. board of directors will hold its June meeting in Algona in the week of June 21, and also make a tour of inspection of the expansion program completed at the Weidenhoff plant. Car hils I wo aiders Friday afternoon Charges of failing to have control of his car were filed against George Weig Jr.,... Algona, after his machine struck two cars during ah accident Friday afternoon about 4:15 p.m. at State and Moore streets. A car driven by Rodney Scuff- ham, also of Algona, had stopped at a stop light and the Weig machine struck it from the rear, doing about $100 in damage. Weig's car had $50 in damage and when he turned .the corner to park it after the crash, it struck a car driven by Darlenc Feaster, doing $10. damage to that car. Policeman Jim Voigt checked the accident. Date swim lessons for Twin Rivers Red Cross swimming lessons for the Twin Rivers community school have been announced. Bode will have lessons beginning on Wednesday, June 23. The bus will leave the school building at 9:55 a.m. on'Wed- nesday and 10:40 v a.m. on Fridays. Livermore lessons will start on Tuesday, June 22, with the bus leaving at 9:10 a.m. on both Tuesday and Friday. Ottosen will have lessons beginning 'pn Wednesday, June 23, also, with the bus leaving the school house at 9:05 a.m. Wednesdays and 8:20 a.m. Fridays. ALGONA (Iowa) ADVANCE— $ | MONDAY, JUNI 7, DIVORCE is SOUGHT A divorce petition was filed in district court last Weekend by Palmer Sblum against Esther soltim. They were married May 29, 1946. at Waseca, Minn., and separated June 1, 1960. Me asks custody of three children. BEAR — Bear tracks were found in and near Keokuk county recently, and a 240 pound bear was shot and killed near Tiplon. The Tipton sheriff, John "Bud" Wallerich, used a .30 cali- bre Hfle to kill the bear, which stood seven feet tall. There is no indication of what a bear might be doing in southeastern Iowa. There are five new students at Durant high school. Mother robin built her nest just outside the principal's office. She now has five baby robins instead of the traditional three. \ Scores of students stopped by the nest each day after the eggs were hatched but none of the eggs or the birds, after their hatchings, were molested.
