HOLLYWOOD — (NEA) — A blue sedan races down a mountain highway of short switchbacks and hairpin curves. Roaring into one curve at 80 miles an hour, the car turns only slightly and then sails out into space and to total destruction in a canyon far below. A small, twin-engine airplane hops along a freeway directly into a huge billboard. The plane crashes through the sign like a fist through paper and then zooms skyward. Speeding along a highway, an auto pulls alongside another. With sudden sharp turns of the wheels, its driver attempts to knock the wir off the pavement. The other driver docs the same. { in a lethal game until a split in the highway sends one ear i hurtling Into a bridge, the other Into a tree. A three-man free-for-all in a gasoline station sends bodies hurtling through glass windows, into pumps, into shelves of batteries and into oil drums. Walls collapse and the fight ends only after the structure has been | leveled. THESE ARE SOME hair- raising examples of movie stunt men at work in "It's a Mad, Mad ,Mad, Mad, World." The automobile sailed out into space was radio controlled (seven cars were demolished before Producer-Director Stanley Kramer was satisfied with the scene). But behind the plane controls, at the wtieels and hurtling through walls were movie stunt men. In all of film history, no motion picture has equaled the hair-raisers of violent action in the Kramer "comedy" about buried treasure and greed turning people Into maniacs. For the Stuntmen's Association of Motion Pictures it was an eight month bonanza during which 89 members of the group split, bv varying percentages, a total of $252,000 for risking lives. Basic salaries were $400 a week, with a minimum of $100 per stunt. Happily not one stunt man was injured: due to careful planning and testing, the COMEBACK OF A STAR — Pola Negri, making her first film In more than 20 years, is joined by other stars of the movie "The Moonspinners," Hayley Mills and Teddy, 20-month-old cheetah. The picture is being made in Elstree, Hertfordshire, England. BERRY'S WORLD Car License FREE TURKEY Free Christmas turkey, with purchase ol one ton of Nutrena livestock or poultry feeds.
