Volga VaUey club Met at Lima church The Volga Valley club met at the Lima church on May 10, with Mrs. Otto Popenhagen, Mrs. Jess Buck master and Mrs. Don Murphy as hostesses to the ten members present. Roll call was answered by "jokes". The program consisted of vocal numbers and singing ns a group. Name bingo was played. Guests were Mrs. Matilda Keller. of Elgin; Mrs. Blanche Davis, Mrs. Max Shaffer, Mrs. Ralph Dickin- son, Mrs. Robert White, all of Fayette; and Mrs. Lyle Kuhens and Mr:;. James Wright, of Wad ena. Mrs. Wright joined the club as a new member. BAKE SALE The Annual Staff of the Fayette high school will hold a bake sale .Saturday, May 1!). at Knights Hardware. On Commencement Day, May 2fl, two honorary degrees in humanities will lx- awarded to, Mrs. Mildred (Jarbee and Judge William 1 lenry Antes. Mrs. Oarbee began her teach ing ca CI.T in Proctor, Minn., where she taught for three years. Then she taught in Keokuk, Iowa for a year he ore moving to South West Missouri State College where she taught for four years, and there married Dr. Kugene Garbee. WHILE DR. GRABEE was in the service. Mrs. Garbee taught his classes at Appalachian State Teachers College in Boone, North Carolina. Then Mrs. Garbee taught at the University of Georgia for two years. She was also the Executive Director of the Girl Scouts in Savanna, Georgia, and became Executive Director again in Des Moines when they moved there. In 1941 - «, Mrs. Garbee taught at New York University Physical Education camps, and again in the summer of 1952, taught at the University of Wyoming Physical Education graduate camps. She has also done a great deal of volunteer work with the Campfire Girls, private boys and girls camps, including YMCA as craft director. Mrs. Garbee is a graduate of the State College of Iowa and received her B. S. degree there. She then did graduate work at the University of California. Since Dr.- Garbee has been the President of Upper Iowa, Mrs. Garbee has served as the official hostess of the college. JUDGE WILLIAM HENRY Ant es, judge of the 13th Judicial District Court of Iowa, is also President of the Upper Iowa University Board of Trustees. He has carried on his law practice in West Union since 1916. In 1912, Judge Antes was Superintendent of Public Schools in Brighton, Iowa, and then in Monona, Iowa from 1913 to 1915. Judge Antes is president of the Board of Directors, North Iowa Pensions Inc. of the Methodist church, and director of St. Lukes Hospital in Cedar Rapids. He is also president of the First National Bank of West Union and president of the Heiserman Memorial Library. HE IS ALSO a member of Delta Sigma Rho, American Bar Association, Rotary, and Eastern Star. Last meeting of year For Woman's club Fayette Federated Woman's Club held its last meeting of the year on Satu-day, May 12, in the Cole grove-Walker building. The 8:30 cafeteria breakfast was se r ved on beautifully decorated tables with spring flowers by Mrs. Frances HendVjx and Mrs. Margaret Nairn. Each member was given a lovely corsage. Following a short business meeting and yearly reports, the Installation of Officers was conducted by the retiring president. Mrs. Alice Billings. The president for 1DC2 - 19G3 was Mrs. Emily Swartz; Vice President, Mrs. Kay Beck; Secretary, Mrs. Jean Jones; Treasurer Mrs. Georgia Riley; Program Chairman; Mrs. Kay Beck: and Historian, Mrs. Alice Billings. The Chairman of the American Home Department Mrs. Margaret Pickett; Book Review, Mrs. Norma Douglas and the Kinderlein, Mrs. Margaret Nairn. Smithfield Jolly Juniors Meet with Diane Kuhens The regular meeting of the Smith fittd Jolly Juniors met with Diane Kuhens as hostess. Roll call was answered by telling "an improvement I mack- in my room or home". Nancy Reed gave a demonstration on how to make a lapped back pillow. Elizabeth Kauffman gave a talk on more storage ideas and Barbara Vandersee talked about fabrics in rooms. Bonnie Kauffman had an example of curtains that had been made over. Mary Ann Cole gave the book report and Mrs. Vandersee gave a lesson on window treatment. Eleanor Arp will be the hostess for the June meeting from 1 to 4:30 p. m. Gamma Mu Sigma i To present recital Gamma Mu Sigma, music fraternity on the Upper Iowa university campus, will present a recital on Sunday May 20, in the Colgrove- Walker auditorium. The program will consist of vocal and instrumental selections. Members of the fraternity taking part in the recital include: Beverly Chandler, Cresco, soprano. "Romary Life." John Bernatz. Ft.
