RatuttUla Center Do-R-Best 4-H club held their Better Grooming contest Saturday afternoon at the homo of Debra Zupke. Every member re ceived a blue ribbon. Chosen to attend Rally Day were Peggy Fox and Sheila Sullivan. Mrs. Reynold Strong, of Hawkeye, was judge. There was a tie between Peggy Pox, Debra Zupke, Sandra Raatz and Joan Lamphier. Lunch was served by Mrs. Zupke. First Lt. Elvin Nading stationed flt England AFB, Alexandria, La., and 1st Lt. Ivan Nading at Shaw A. F. B. Sumter. South Carolina. are together at Eglin A. F. B. Florida for extension maneuver. This is the first time the brothers have seen each other for 16 months. Both are sons fo Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nading of Randal ia and are graduates of the University of Iowa where they were commissioned in the ROTC program. Pfc. Larry B. Cue, Braconne, France, home on a 30 day furlough visited a few days with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bacon. His address is Pfc Larry B. Cue R. A. 17581633, 51st M. P. Det. A. P. 0. 211 New York, New York. He was married Monday April 15 to Gladys Schaffer of Watreloo in the Lutheran church in Waterloo with just the immediate families attending. The bride is <i beauty operator in Waterloo. Supt. Raydon Bacon, Gregg and Brett, of Shellsburg, brought his mother Mrs. Blanche Knight home Tuesday. She had spent the winter with her son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Noel Bacon at Stanford, Connecticut, and also visited at the Roydon Bacon home. Mrs. Robert Hanchett received word Friday of the death of her cousin Guy Stiles at Sioux City. Mr. and Mrs. Hanchett accompanied by Frank Stiles of Oelwein and Mrs. Myrtle Huber of Waverly drove to Sioux City Saturday. Robert attended the Methodist church Sunday where Rev. Charles Mason is pastor, a former Randalia pastor and on their way home Sunday stopped to see Rev. and Mrs. Gale Hawhee at Merrill, another former pastor of Randalia. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Frye attended the ' funeral services for their nephew Keen Brown at the Methodist church in Fayette Saturday afternoon. Dr. and Mrs.. Fay Warner and Craig of Washington, Iowa, were weekend guests in the Peter Hoepfner home. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Schrader have purchased the Freeman house, formerly the Herman Buenneke residence in Maynard. They expect to move sometime this summer as they had sold their farm earlier to Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ault. Harlan NRG girls Compete in Better Grooming contest Maynard — The Harlan NRG girls' 4-H club met Saturday afternoon Apr. M, at the Community hall with 14 members and three leaders, Mrs. Leo Simpson, Mrs. Ted Bodley and Mrs. Ivan Gamier, president. Dorothye Busching, Fayette county home economist, was a guest. The main event of the afternoon was the Better Grooming contest with Mrs. Carroll Turner as Judge. Ann Gilmer received first place in the senior division and Becky Truesdell in the junior division. These girls will represent the NRG club at the county contest on May 12. Ann Gilmer was chosen as candidate for county office. On the program was a study of the artist, Grant Wood, and the pictures "Blue Horse" and "Young Corn" led by Mrs. Gamier and Mrs. Bodley. Because the county Rally Day program falls on the regular date of the. club it was 'necessary to change 'it to 'Saturday, May 5. This will ba an all-day workshop beginning- at 10 a. m. with ' potluck dinner 'at noon; The club*yoted to have, a bake sale on Saturday, April 2&, at the Launderette beginning at 1 p. m. Announcement was- made of the county 1 4-H dance 'to be at the Community hall, Maynard, on Wednesday, April 25, The public is invited;' Lunch was served at the close by Karen 'Fish and Becky Truesdell assisted by- their, mothers, Mrs. Don' Fish and Mrs; W. P. Truesdell. Happy Valley club meets The Happy Valley club 'met Wednesday* afternoon "with: Mrs. Robert White. Mrs. Gladys Warner and Mr a, Maurice Everett were -.
