The same eligibility requirements apply to students with undeclared majors and those enrolled in the Board of Trustees bachelor of arts degree program. Now In Its third year, the project Is co-sponsored by Mattoon Rotary Club and Lambda State Foundation, part of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional educators society. The personalized books promote reading skills, responsibility and self-confidence. Any graduating, college-bound senior is eligible for the award. The award recognizes leadership achievements or the potential for leadership development and achievement in the collegiate environment. Nominations are made by high school counselors. The recipient must attend Eastern Illinois University for the upcoming fall semester to receive the award. Students who have applied for or received other Eastern Illinois University scholarships are also eligible for this program.

Award recipients will be honored at a special reception in the fall. The group will have the opportunity to participate in the Emerging Leaders Program designed to further skills and knowledge. Local recipients include: Areola: Margo McLane, daughter of Kenneth and Susan McLane of Areola; 2003 graduate of Areola High School; anticipated elementary education major. Charleston: Thomas D. McElwee, son of Robert E.

and Lola A. McElwee of Charleston; 2003 graduate of Charleston High School; anticipated history major with teacher certification. Jewett: Michael Pitcher, son of Melvin and Patti Pitcher of Jewett; 2003 graduate of Cumberland High School in Toledo; anticipated elementary education major. Marshall: Emily Taylor, daughter of George Taylor Jr. of Marshall; 2003 graduate of Marshall High School; anticipated elementary education major.

Martinsville: Amy Blankenbeker, daughter of Mark and Sharon Blankenbeker of Martinsville; 2003 graduate of Martinsville Junior and Senior High School; anticipated psychologypre-medi-cine major. SCHOOL HONORS Students receive Talented Student Awards FFA chapters honored for development at convention Two local FA chapters recently received a Gold Emblem Award at the 75th Annual Illinois FA Convention held June 10-12 in the Prairie Capital Convention Center, Springfield, in recognition of their Chapter Development Program. The Chapter Development Program, along with student development and community development, make up the chapter's program of activities. Chapters receiving the Gold Emblem Award were Sullivan and Windsor. Local students named to dean's list Lakeview College of Nursing in Danville and Charleston is pleased to announce that four local students have been named to the dean's list for the spring 2003 semester. The local student named to the dean's list for the Danville campus was Elizabeth Gisondi of Charleston.

Local students named from the Eastern Illinois University campus are Michele Honn and Lynn McClellan, both of Mattoon. Students who are enrolled in at least six credit hours in Lakeview College of Nursing and who achieve a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale are named to the dean's list for the semester. Local students graduate from Olney Central College Olney Central College has announced its 2003 graduates. Local students receiving associate in applied science degrees were Jessica Sharp from Casey and Allan Towles of Marshall. Receiving degrees in nursing and allied health were Cheyenne Neff of Charleston and Andrea Gray of Toledo.

Windsor High School was involved in volleyball, National Honor Society, Student Council, Spanish Club, Key Club, Family and Consumer Science and dance team. Lading, daughter of Greg and Cathy Lading, plans to study business administration. Amanda Hunter of Lovington, a graduate of Lovington High School, was involved in National Honor Society, band, FHA, Foreign Language Club, Scholastic Bowl and was elected senior class vice president. Hunter is the daughter of Mike and Debbie Hunter, Lovington.

She plans to study psychology. Kody Key of Brocton, a graduate of Shiloh High School, was involved in baseball golf, National Honor Society, FFA, SADD, PEER Leaders, art club, Spanish club, ecology club and band. He received the President's Scholars Award two years in a row in addition to awards in basketball, golf and art. Key has also volunteered for several church, school and community programs. Key is the son of Kevin and Kimberley Key, Brocton.

He plans to study pre-physical therapy in the fall. The Talented Student Award offers tuition waivers to high school graduates for academic scholarships, athletics and participation in the livestock judging team. The tuition waiver program is for the maximum of two consecutive calendar years beginning with the first enrollment period. MATTOON Several area students have been named recipients of the Lake Land College Talented Student Award for the 2003-2004 school Area students receiving the award were: Tessa Harner of Lovington, a graduate of Lovington High School was involved in Students Against Drunk Drivers, Operation Cool, juniorsenior class play and elected president of the Foreign Language Club. Harner is the daughter of Lyn and Jan Harner, Lovington.

She plans to study liberal arts. Peter Rincker of Windsor, a graduate of Windsor High School, was involved with Future Farmers of America, National Honor Society, Student Council band, basketball, track, Ecology Team, Scholastic Bowl and WYSE team. Rincker, son of Lyndal and Jennifer Rincker of Windsor, plans to study computer engineering. Lindsey Joyce, a graduate of Neoga High School, was involved in National Honor Society, Math Club, Science Club, Future Teachers of America, Nursing Club, Student Council and was elected student class treasurer for the 2003 school year. Joyce is the daughter of Patricia Joyce, Neoga.

She is undecided on what she will study at LLC. Jessica Nicholson of Sullivan, a graduate of Sullivan High School was involved in National Honor Society, Future Farmers of America, Student Council and basketbalL Nicholson is the daughter of Debbie and Tony Nicholson, Sullivan. She plans to study biological science education. James Aikman of Arthur, an Arthur High School graduate, was involved in basketball football track, weight club, varsity club, Lifesavers, eco-club and the National Honor Society. He also has assisted with community service events, including a canned food drive and a blood drive.

Aikman is the son of Mike and Rhonda Aikman of Arthur. He plans to major in business administration. Evan St Michael of Mattoon, a graduate of Mattoon High School, was the manager of the girls' junior varsity and varsity basketball teams. St Michael, son of Justin and Joyce St Michael plans to study criminal justice. Dennis Loy of Sullivan, a graduate of Sullivan High School was involved in baseball, golf and National Honor Society.

He was named an Illinois State Scholar and was listed on the National Honor Roll and Who's Who Among American High School Students. Loy is the son of Dave and Tami Loy, Sullivan. He plans to study accountingbusiness. Dawn McMuUen of Arthur, a graduate of Arthur High School was involved in volleyball and track and was elected class treasurer her junior and senior years. McMullen is the daughter of Colette and Michael McMullen, Arthur.
