Two Alton men charged with theft Two Alton men were arrested after trying to steal an estimated $2,000 in metal bars from Owens-Illinois Monday night, police said. Arrested and charged with theft over Slot) were Richard Dale Austin, lifi, of 804 Adams Court and Louis August Harrison, 3(1, of 322-1 College Ave. Police said the men, and (58 bars of a metal called "XX" by Owens Illinois, were found near the back fence of the firm shortly before 10 p.m. Investigating officers discovered a hole cut through the wire fence surrounding 01 and then found 28 of the bars, which are apparently used for moldmaking at the plant, scattered just south of the fence near OI's foundry.
