Class members will analyze the speeches of the presidential and vice presidential candidates and try to determine their impact, If any, on the voting public David Valley, a new SltJE speech faculty member, will be the instructor, Beginning Sept. 21, the class will meet from 5 :30 lo 8:20 p m. on Thursdays in Room 2042 of the Communications Building. The four-hour-credit course is entitled Contemporary Public Address. Valley, who received his Ph.D. degree in June from the University of Illinois, wrote his doctoral dissertation on presidential nom, nation acceptance speeches from 1832 through 1968. "Acceptance speeches have become shorter and more general in nature since the radio and television era," Valley claims. He attributes this to the fact t^at they are heard today by a more diversified group "V'ou have to look at the campyigd speeches directed to .special interest groups to find ou f , what today's candidates stand for," he said. "We will compare this year's c;impaij:n speeches with those of previous years and discuss any differences in approach and content. We will analyze these speeches and see how they fit into the American tradition of campaigning and try to interpret the voters' reactions." Valley said There is no prerequisite? tor the course. Valley and his wife three children live at Valley View Dr., Alton. 'l*t iiii :tO" Re- (r;/f ralcir is I;:..') cu. It. overall \viUi a :i.-M cu. It. irc'vci thai •-to ro-> up 10 \'M ib^. Phi* «-•(;•.! Experts say — "One reason is, rules and regulations change, and even some safe drivers don't keep up with the new laws". If your license expires this year, you may be among the hundreds of thousands that will be re-examined in 1972. So if you're nervous about taking the state written exam, here's good news. You can purchase your own "self-scoring" test papers, complete with questions, answers and road signs you should know for that important examination day. This method has helped thousands pass.
