(Ryder) Smith, age 75, of Mattoon, passed away at 9:06 a.m., on February 14, 2008, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Mattoon. A graveside service was held 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 15, 2008, at Dodge Grove Cemetery in Mattoon with Reverend Don Roberts officiating. There was no visitation.

Paul Bearers were Kevin Smith, Carl Weber, IV, Jason Weber, Dave Logsdon, Tony Budeselich, and John Metrich. Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home is assisting the family. Mrs. Smith was born October 29, 1932, in Shelby County, Illinois, the daughter of Marshall and Mary M. (Kuster) Ryder.

She married Richard Smith on March 24, 2007. He survives. Other survivors include four step-children, Jim Smith and wife Connie of Cowden, Illinois, Ed Smith and wife Pam of Tennessee, Dennis Smith of Mattoon, and Tammy Weber and husband Carl Weber III of Mattoon; five step-grandchildren, Kevin Lee Smith of Mattoon, Carl Weber IV and Lisa Pierce of Mattoon, Jason Weber and wife Tasha of Mattoon, Kirshia Smith of Mattoon, and Samantha Smith of Mattoon; one nephew, Harold Ryder of Florida; and two nieces, Diana Ruth Morse and husband Steve of Downers Grove, Illinois, and Marsha Budeselich and husband Tony of Hammond, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, and one step-son, Dan Smith. Mrs.

Smith attended the Grace Fellowship Church in Mattoon and was a former employee of Burtschi's Store. She enjoyed playing the piano, was an avid reader who read the Bible regularly and enjoyed reading the newspaper, and collected Hummel figurines. Wanda loved and was devoted to her family and will be sadly missed by all those whose lives she touched. Cevera D. McCord CHARLESTON Cevera D. McCord, 86, of Charleston, passed away Friday, February 15, 2008, at the Charleston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. The funeral service honoring her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2008, at the Harper-Swickard Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials in her honor may be made to the Charleston Public Library. Cevera was born June 8, 1921, in Coles County, Illinois, daughter of Sherman R.

and Susie (Jones) Decker. She married Ralph McCord in 1939; he preceded her in death January 10, 1995. Surviving is one daughter: June (Ward) Senteney of Charleston; two granddaughters: Sara (Eric) Jennings of Charleston and Angie (Chris) McCullough of Mattoon; four great-grandchildren: Joshua Jennings, Valerie Jennings, Stephen McCullough, and Alex McCullough; and one special nephew: Larry Dean Decker of Charleston. Two brothers: Dean Decker of Indianapolis and Truman Decker of Solo, MO; and one sister: Bonnie Evans of Charleston, also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers: Henry Decker and Ray Richard Decker; and one sister: Susan R.

Cochran SULLIVAN Don L. Cochran passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at the age of 86. He had fought diabetes and vascular problems for several years. Visitation to celebrate his life will be on Monday, February, 18 at Reed Funeral Home, Sullivan, from 11:30 to 1:00 with Graveside Services at 1:30 with Pastor Paul McGhghy officiating. Interment will be next to his wife and son at Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan, with Military Rites conducted by the Sullivan American Legion Post Condolences may be sent to reedfuneralhome.net.

Cochran Born July 4, 1921 to Grant and Ethyl (Collins) Cochran he attended schools in Sullivan and graduated from Sullivan High School. He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Navy on the U.S.S. Arkansas. He worked two jobs most of his life. When he retired from Blaw Knox, Mat- on obituaries.

toon, at the age of 62, he built a shop at his home to continue his life long passion as a cabinet maker and finish carpenter. He learned these carpentry skills from his father at a very early age and continued with this profession at Cochran Cabinet Works until he reluctantly sold his tools in 2006. He was so talented. All he needed was a picture or sketch, the dimensions and what wood you wanted it made from, and he could build it. He was very proud of his family heritage and many conversations would gravitate to stories of his Great Grandfather, W.G.

Cochran, a self taught attorney and the first Circuit Judge of Moultrie County and then Speaker of the House of Representatives for the State of Illinois for two terms and his Grandfather Circuit Judge Oscar Cochran. He was from a family of thirteen children and was very proud of all of his brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews and their successes in life. His family has always remained close no matter how many miles apart. He was happily married to Patsy Ruth (Kennedy) Cochran for 57 years. She preceded him in death on April 10, 2003.

He has missed her so. He is survived by his daughter Joanna (Jody) Cochran of Sullivan, sisters; Helen (Roger) Moynahan of Noblesville, IN; Melba (Charlie) Strong of Frisco, TX; brother; Leon (Janette) Cochran of New Bern, NC; sister in law, Eunice (Lloyd) Cochran, of Mercer Island, WA and -law, Frank (Nona) Neal of Danville, as well as, many nieces and nephews and several long time friends. He was preceded by his parents, his wife, his son, Michael Kent Cochran, and family members Granville Cochran, Margaret Cochran, Wayne and Charlotte Cochran, Lloyd Cochran, June and Don Bolin Dean and Nancy Cochran, Gail and Betty Cochran, Nona Neal and Kathryn Wilson. Don was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church of Sullivan, and was active in the church for many years. He also belonged to The Moultrie County Historical Society and was a very strong Republican.

Donations are suggested to Eastview Terrace or the First United Methodist Church both of Sullivan. "Sonny" Upton, age 80, of Mattoon, left us at 4:30 p.m. on February 14, 2008. Funeral services celebrating his life will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 18, 2008 at Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home in Mattoon with Pastor Lloyd Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, also in Mattoon. Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 3:00 6:00 p.m.

at the funeral home. Sonny was born in Mattoon on November 14, 1927, the son of Howard and Nelda (Sanders) Upton. Both parents preceded him in death. He is survived by five children, Rick Upton and wife Sandy, Randy Upton, Donny Upton and wife Bridget, Nancy Orndoff, and Lori Hall and husband Steve, all of Mattoon; two sisters, Marjorie Hays and husband Mack of Mesa, Arizona, and Vivian Cohea of Mattoon; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Upton of Mattoon; one aunt, Irma White of Mattoon; twelve grandchildren, Mitch Upton of Chicago, Illinois, Katie Upton of Edwardsville, Illinois, Zack Upton of Peoria, Illinois, Coby Upton of Mattoon, Illinois, Gabe Upton of St. Louis, Missouri, Matt Upton of Gays, Illinois, Nick Upton of Austin, Texas, Melissa Briggs a and husband Mike of Toledo, Illinois, Jeremy Orndoff of Gulfport, Mississippi, Travis Upton and wife Stephanie of Lerna, Illinois, Sasha Trueblood of Mattoon, and Miles Trueblood of Mattoon.

He leaves four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Upton. Mr. Upton was a retired employee of Howell Paving and had been a truck driver for other companies, as well. He was also a photographer and had photographed many weddings and graduations.

Collecting cars was a hobby of his and he was a member of the Coles County Car Club. He also enjoyed camping and spending time at the fairgrounds. Sonny was quite the conversationalist and enjoyed lengthy visits with just about anyone. He possessed a memorable personality and won't soon be forgotten. GREENUP Phyllis Zei, 90 years of age, passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2008 at 10:11 p.m. at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the Bishop Funeral Home in Greenup from 9:00 a.m.

to 10:00 a.m. prior to her Mass. The celebration of Phyllis Zei's life, with Father Mike Haag officiating, will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church in Greenup, IL on Monday, February 18, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Greenup Cemetery. Thereafter, lunch will be served in the Christ the King Parish Hall for her friends and family.

Phyllis (Olenick) Zei was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 6, 1918. At the young age of 17, both of her parents passed away leaving her, one older brother Joseph and one younger sister Violet to learn the ways of the world alone. Both siblings preceded her in death. On February 4, 1939 John and Phyllis Zei were joined together in holy matrimony in Chicago. A few years later, the two relocated to Greenup to enjoy the small town life with their family and many friends.

They shared 61 anniversaries before her beloved husband passed away in January 2000. Phyllis was a stay-at-home wife and mother. She donated her extra time and service to her Church plus volunteering for over a decade at the Cumberland Mental Health Center's Re-Socialization Group in Toledo. Phyllis has five daughters: Sandra Simmons from Evansville, Indiana, Sharon Robinson from Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Susan Zei-Jones (Fred Jones) from Oak Park, IL, Sylvia Zei (Norman Allen) from Honaunau, Hawaii, and Sheila who, as an infant of 7 months, passed away. Phyllis has five grandsons: Marty, John (Jill) and Chris (Trisha) Robinson who reside in Toledo, IL, Noah Allen from Seattle, Washington, and Joshua Allen from Los Angeles, California.

She had two granddaughters: Sheila Simmons from Evansville, Indiana and Ebonee Dawn Jones from Oak Park, IL. Her great grandchildren are Janele Robinson from Toledo, IL, Rachael Robinson from Charleston, IL, Cameron Coppage from Oak Park, IL, Vada Marie Robinson of Toledo, and Ayden Tull Robinson who preceded her in death. For the last 3 years Phyllis resided at the Odd Fellow Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL. Each and every day it was a comfort to her family to know that she was receiving quality care. The staff, with their warmth and caring attitude, shared the loving hugs we were unable to give her while so far away.

Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Drive in Charleston, will host Services honoring and celebrating her life at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (February 16) with Pastor Don Lusk officiating. Interment will follow in Mound Cemetery in Charleston. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Doris was born in Murdock, Illinois, on February 28, 1918, to Clarence and Oka (Moseby) Reynolds. She was united in marriage to Donald A. Walters on October 5, 1935, in Terre Haute, Ashmore, went 2008) at Hill- Jones Jones Indiana. Following Don's death on July 23, 1992, she married Paul C. Jones on July 2, 1994.

Paul passed away on August 13, 2004. She is survived by one daughter, Erlene Updegraff and her husband Bill of Charleston; two sons, Donald R. "Bud" Walters and his wife. Juretta and Robert (R.C.) Walters and his wife Carolyn, all of Ashmore; one stepdaughter, Janet Jones of Bloomfield, Colorade; two sisters, Zola Adams of Charleston and Faye Duer and her husband Frank of Ocala, Florida; eight grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Mildred Maxine Haggard; two grandsons, Randy Graham and William Dean Walters; three brothers, Eldon Reynolds, Carl Reynolds and Cecil Reynolds; and two sisters, Dorothy Strader and Wanda Plummer.

Doris was a faithful and long-time member of the Ashmore First Baptist Church. She was a wonderful cook and baker her pies were the best. She enjoyed camping and traveling especially spending winters in Florida with Don. But most of all she dearly loved her family her family was her life. Doris' loving family has requested that Memorials in her honor be made to the Ashmore First Baptist Church.

Greathouse of Mattoon; three daughters, Teresa Stuttle and husband Pat of Mattoon, Jill E. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Blossom LaMasters Johnson and two brothers, John LaMasters and Paul LaMasters. Mrs. Greathouse retired as a guidance counselor from Mattoon High School in 1984, having served in the Mattoon schools for thirty years. Dorothy received her Bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University and in 1951 was honored to be the senior attendant to the Homecoming Queen at E.I.U. She was also an active campus leader and later that year was named to the Who's Who at E.I.U.

1952-1953 in Oakwood, Illinois, was her first year of teaching. Next year (1953-1954) she taught at Mattoon's Longfellow School. She was proud to be a member of the "Last Man's Club" among the teachers who taught in the final year at Longfellow School. In the 1970s she established the Career Center at Mattoon High School whose mission was to help students create better futures for themselves. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Mattoon where she enjoyed singing in the Choir for many years.

Dorothy was an avid golfer and gardener and her green thumb enlivens every corner of her yard. Dorothy was very much the center of her family and passionate in caring for them and for her many friends. at her home on Thursday, February 14th, 2008. Funeral services in tribute to her life will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2008, at the Schilling Funeral Home with the Reverend Dr. Mark Prevo officiating. Burial will follow in the Dodge Grove Cemetery, Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m.

Mitchell MATTOON Vanda A. Mitchell, age 91, of Mattoon, passed away at 3:55 a.m. February 14, 2008, at the Odd Fellow Rebekah Home. The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2008, at the Mitchell-Jerdan Funeral Home with the Reverend Gary Gromley officiating. Interment will be in the Dodge Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Mitchell was born in Chapin, Illinois on April 25, 1916, the daughter of William D. and Clarisy (McDaniel) Vaniter. She married Joe Mitchell on June 30, 1937 in Jacksonville, Illinois.

He survives. Other survivors include their daughter, Sharon Eberhardt of Sullivan, Illinois; a sister, Betty Tobin of Jacksonville, Illinois; one grandchild, Cortni McCabe and husband Rich of Tolono, Illinois; and an expected great- grandson, Max McCabe. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Bus, Dean, Richard, George, and Danny Vaniter; four sisters, Ina Fetch, Frances House, Gurtie Smith, and Lucy Clark; a grandson, Mitchell E. Eberhardt; and a son-in-law, Cort Eberhardt. Mrs.

Mitchell was a former employee of Brown Shoe Company and a retired seamstress. She was fond of flower gardening and arranging, however, spending time with her family was the pastime she held dearest. Cochran James M. Icenogle Edwin and one grand- VINITA, Okla. James Maurice Icenogle, 82, of Vinita, Okla. was born on July 6, 1925 to John and Nellie Icenogle in Mattoon, IL and was ushered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on February 14, 2008, at the wonderful age of 82. Leaving behind to deal with the sorrows of this old world are his daughter Martha and husband Eldon Post of Phoenix, AZ; Son, Jimmy Icenogle and wife Brenda of Bristow, Stepsons, Ronald Maxwell of Tulsa, Okla.

and Derwin Maxwell of California. Five grandchildren and one great grand daughter. Two sisters, Adele Cunningham of Bartlesville, Okla. and Ruth Treadgold of Washington State. Four brothers, his twin, Jesse Icenogle and wife Norma of Mattoon, Il; Johnny Icenogle and wife Evelyn, Arthur Icenogle and wife Joannie, Tom Icenogle and wife Betty, all of California.

A host of other family and friends and close business associates.
