The Cardinals got to Burkott immediately in the fourth as Albert Pujols led off with a double and scored on Jim Edmonds' single.

But Burkett shut the Cardinals out for the final five innings. In the second, the Red Sox had a season-high seven hits and tied their season-high of seven runs in one inning. Maybe when we would have gone back out there, we couldn't have seen it either." The game is not to be completed so Post 88 has to settle for a 1-0 start to the season. At least Murphy got started.

"I definitely had some rusty spots to work out but I'll get there," said the right-handed pitcher, who struck out eight batters and walked two. "I felt real good. I felt in shape even though I hadn't thrown for a while and I felt good about the teammates playing behind me." Catcher Kent Watkins gave good reviews. "He hit the spots and had real good zip on his fastball," last week's Mattoon graduate said. Watkins delivered one of the big hits for Post 88, which did all of its scoring in the second inning.

Cody Mullen drove a double over the center fielder's head ever soon," but I never hoard him say that even when it would have boon justified. Ho always somehow stayed patient when this sports editor was panicking. Occasionally I'd say thank you for his help. I hope ho and his family realize ho was appreciated much more often than that. Brian Nielsen is sports editor of the Journal Gazette and Times-Courier.

Contact Nielsen at from 151 an RBI single. Kevin Millar capped the rally with a two-run double. The Rod Sox made it 9-0 in the third on Damon's RBI single and Garciaparra's sacrifice fly. Ramirez led off the sixth with his 14th homer, his seventh during his 10-game hitting streak, to make the score 10-0. They added three more runs in the eighth against Dustin Hermanson, who pitched for Boston last year.

Notes: Pujols extended his hitting streak to 12 games. The Cardinals lost for just the second time in nine games. In interleague play, they're 6-2 this season. Boston is 6-1 in Martinez's last seven starts after going 0-3 in his first throe. New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick attended the game and sat beside the Red Sox dugout.

Nicole Edens, Neely Hupp and Posada and pinch-hitter Bubba Trammell to start the ninth. He then got Hideki Matsui to ground to first base with one pitch to complete the Astros' 10th no-hitter, the first since Darryl Kile against the New York Mets on Sept. 8, 1993.

With Yankees' fans standing and applauding, Wagner pumped his fist as he stepped on first base to end it. Many with one out and scored on Watkins' opposite field triple just inside the right field line. "That's my spot on the field," Watkins said. "It was a late-breaking curveball and I just went with it." Kyle Bradd followed with a base hit down the left field line to make it 2-0 and scored the third run on a throwing error. Bradd also had a fourth-inning single in his 2-for-3 game.

"Those were our 6-7-8 hitters who hit the ball well," Logan said. "We didn't get much out of our 3-4-5 hitters but we will. "Of course anytime you have Brandon Murphy on the mound you're going to get a well-pitched game. There were no flyball outs. Our infield did a good job.

I'd just as soon he not get as many strikeouts and save his arm. I think he likes having this infield."
