Construction Up At Wood River WOOD RIVER — Estimated: construction for the first three months of this year, as reported ( from the building inspector's of-, fice, show a total of $2,336,86ti as contrasted with $306.275 for the first quarter of last year. I Primary reason for this year's increase is construction of a 51,750,000 mechanical building at American Oil Co. (Standard) tot house storerooms, offices and| machine shops, according to Fred Penning, director of public works j for the city. A breakdown of the amount! spent for each type of construe-' tion this year as contrasted withj figures for the first quarter of' last year show: 5152.000, residen- 1 tiaJ (13 homes); $137,780, (1-J, homes); $44,000 commercial,! 3 structures $52,000; 3 structures; $1,750,000, one industrial building; $77,400, one industrial structure. A total of $390,886 has been; spent the first quarter of thisj year on garages, alterations etc. i a& contrasted with $38,595 for the; same period last year. j Cars Collide In East Alton EAST ALTON — Automobiles, driven by George D. Yager. 24,: 15 Rnmona, Godfrey, and Mere-' dith M. Roberts. 71. 3435 Highway Dr., Highland collided on Alt. 67 at the railroad crossing near Just Rite Cleaners in East Alton Wednesday at 3:48 p.m. Mrs. Roberts was a passenger in the Roberts ear. All three reported minor injuries to the police. Both cars were traveling south on> Alt. 67. No. 1 fire truck was dispatched to the scene to wash gas-1 oline off the street, police report-! ed. Roberts paid $15 fines and cost for careless driving before John Hanks, justice of the peace. Wood River VFW to Install Officers WOOD RIVER - Joint installation ceremonies of officers of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Hall following a 6:30 p.m. potluck dinner. Mrs. Villa Frailey will succeed Mrs. Leroy Phipps as auxiliary) president, and Floyd Bunt will be installed for another term as post commander. The formal program will be followed by a dancing party until midnight. ! j Bunker Hill Group Visits Nursing Home BUNKER HILL.— Members of the Lutheran Womens Missionary League and 15 children of the Zion Lutheran Choir visited the Hammond Nursing Home and the Towerview Nursing Home in Bunker Hill Monday. Members of the choir were: Vicki Buns, Lyndall and Vickie Kraner, Bill Kuethe, Becky and Linda Landreth, David and Karen Mainnolt, Linda Owens, Paul and Richard Pectonan, Sheryll Renken, Steven Hull, Kevin Rust and Danny Wieaeman.
