The company actually delivers pet. food in bags and cans to the homes of dog and cat owners. The company, originally located in Marengo, 111., began as a professional service for veterinarians, kennels and pet shops. But, Neal says, people would often stop his delivery truck and ask for a can or two of food for their family pets. "Someone always wanted some food and we'd stop for them," he said. "We decided then to sell to individuals and the business grew primarily by word of mouth." The firm now serves a wide area in northeastern Illinois — stretching from the Illinois- Wisconsin line to Joltet. Pine Tree also ships food to in- d i v i d u a 1 s and kennels throughout the United States. "Basically, we go to every area every two weeks," he explained. "We keep rate books with a card on each customer Indicating how much they buy and when. For the finicky pet, Pine Tree offers 21 different varieties of frozen, canned or dry food.
