Four share Senior Classic lead LOS ANGELES Raymond Floyd, Bunky Henry, Jim Colbert and Harold Henning fired 5-under-par 66s to share the lead after Friday's opening round of the $800,000 Ralphs Senior Classic. Chi Chi Rodriguez's eagle on the 18th hole gave him a 4-under 67, one of six players within a shot off the lead. Floyd birdied six of the first seven holes but could only manage one more birdie to go with bogeys at Nos. 8 and 10. Pierce beats cold, holds Classic lead NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.

Caroline Pierce, the leader by three strokes, and Michelle McGann stepped into a mild seam in the middle of a bone-chilling Friday at Wykagyl Country Club to shoot the only rounds in the 60s in two days in the JAL Big Apple Classic. The amazing 67s by Pierce and McGann, who was tied for second with Dottie Pepper after 36 holes, were three strokes better than any other round in the tournament. Pierce, who went out in 31 during the warmest part of the day, was at 3-under-par 139 going into today's final round and was the only player below par for 36 holes. Police in this Cincinnati suburb said Tubbs was sitting in the back seat of a car that officers stopped early Thursday. Officers said they ordered Tubbs out of the car and noticed what they said was a rock of crack cocaine on the floor near one of his shoes. The charge is a fifth-degree felony. Police said conviction could bring punishment of a year in prison and a $2,500 fine. Tubbs made an initial appearance in Hamilton County Municipal Court on Thursday.

Judge Dennis Helmick agreed with Tubbs' attorney that there was little evidence to show the crack belonged to the boxer. Helmick released Tubbs, 38, after he promised to return for other court hearings in the case. Tubbs, who last fought in an August 1995 loss, won the WBA title with a 15-round decision over Greg Page in 1986. He lost the title eight months later, dropping a decision to Tim Witherspoon. The round didn't come close to his record-setting pace of 17-under after the first two rounds, but was good enough to keep Fehr in the lead going into the final 36 holes. Fehr was on top a crowded lead-erboard that featured some big names. Love was two shots back, while Fred Couples was in a group at 16-under, four back, with three others.

Lee Janzen and Paul Az-inger were another two strokes back along with Tiger Woods, who shot a 68 that could have been much better after making the turn 5-under. Woods, though, appeared to pull a groin muscle while hitting his second shot from an awkward lie on the 15th hole and limped noticeably the rest of the way in. Tour officials said he was still expected to play today. Celtic player may have heart problem WALTHAM, Mass. M.L.

Can-ran from the gym to take the urgent message: Another Boston Celtics player drafted in the first round, Eric Williams, might have a heart problem. Boston's coach quickly tried to head off comparisons with Reggie Lewis, the team captain who died in 1993 after collapsing while shooting baskets at Brandeis University, the same facility where the Celtics worked out Friday. A routine team physical Thursday showed a cardiac abnormality, and Williams stayed behind for more tests while his teammates left Friday for training camp at the University of North Carolina in Greensboro.
