LOCALS Letters to Santa — North Pole Bonnie and Barbara Boulton, twin daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Boulton observed their llth birthday Saturday, Dec. 9. ^ mk Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Schuety are the parents of a son born Dec. 8 at the West Union hospital. Mrs. Robert Steinbronn and infant, son, Robert George, came home from the West Union hospital Thursday evening. —•— Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Sorge and sons, of Randalia, were dinner guests Sunday at the parental Louie Sorge home and were hosts at the open house for the Sorge's golden wedding observance at the First Methodist church that afternoon. —•— The Bernard Hammond, family who have been occupying the building on the farm of the late W. I. Miner, have moved to Fayette and reside in the brick house east of Otfs Drive-in. Mrs. Mildred" Miner, Shirley and Gerald and her mother, Mrs. Amelia Voelker were Sunday afternoon and supper guests at the Robert Miner home in Independence in celebration of Robert's birthday. ^ . Mr. and Mrs. Park Cowles entertained about 20 relatives and friends in their home Saturday Mission circle Christmas Party held at church The annual Grace Lutheran Mission Circle Christmas party was held at the church Thursday, Dec. 7, beginning with a pot-luck dinner at noon. About 25 women, including the members and their guests attended, also 15 children. The program following the dinner was opened by a Hymn. Pastor Betke offered prayer and the mite boxes were presented. All repeated the L W M L pledge in unison. Mrs. George Buhman, president, presided at the business session. Reports were given, and gifts presented to those with perfect attendance. Mrs. James Miller had not missed a meeting for seven years and Mrs. W. A. Schroder, Mrs. D. Thompson, Mrs. George Buhman and Mrs. Gary Alber have not missed a meeting in 1961. New members gained during the year were Mrs. Earl Gibson and Mrs. Don Streeter. Little Golden Books were presented to each child present and also two matching throw rugs and a luncheon cloth to Pastor and Mrs. Betke. The next regular meeting will be held the first Thursday in January, at which the officers for the new year will be installed. evening ns a tve celebration for their grandson, Donald Chensvold's ninth birthday on Dec. 24. — tit Miss Phyllis Weyant, bride to be of Duane Engli-r, will be honored with a miscellaneous shower at the Lutheran church parlors, Thursday evening, Dec. 14. 0 Mr. and Mrs. Ernest I lias and two boys, of Cedar Rapids were dinner and suppor guests Sunday of her mother. Mrs. Agnes Dickin- sonson. £ Mr. and Mrs. Roscoo Cousins were dinner guests at the Dale Skinner home in Waterloo Sunday as a birthday courtesy for Mr. Cousins. Mr. and Mrs. James Jach and children were also guest. —•— Dennis Dumermuth, who teaches fit Calendar, spent the week-end in the parental Eldred Dumermuth home. — a — Six o'clock dinner guests Thursday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wood were Mr. and Mrs. John Gantenbein, of Maynard, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim McCnuley, of Stanley. M". and Mrs. Donald Orr and their granddaughter, Alicia Connor who attends U. I. U., spent from Friday evening until Sunday in the Joe Connor home in Cedar Rapids. ^ Mrs. Merle Durfey submitted to surgery in the Oelv> 'in hospital Saturday. Odekirks honored On 25th annniversary MAYNARD — Mr. and Mrs. Arvid Odekirk were surprised Sunday afternoon, Dec. 10 when members of their immediate family and other relatives met in the social room or the St. Paul's Luthcrn church to observe their 25th wedding anniversary. Hosts for the courtesy were her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs James Emmonds, Washburn. The former Lethal Lauck, Oelwein, and Mr. Odekirk were married at the Lutheran parsonage, Oelwein, on Dec. 9, 1936. For a time they farmed southeast of Maynard and then moved to town in 1939. They are the parents of three sons: Dean at Lamont, Wayne at Waterloo and Gary at home, all of whom were present. There are two grandchildren.
