The members helped assemble gift baskets that contained various agriculture commodities and then delivered the baskets to four state legislators. The members delivered the gift baskets to promote the Importance of agriculture and agricultural education In Illinois. SCHOOL HONORS Shaw named student of month Elizabeth Shaw has been named Student of the Month for March at Shelbyville High School. Shaw is daughter of Deborah Shaw. She has a grade-point average of 3.927 and is currently ranked fourth in her class.

Her extra-curricular activities and club involvement include band, tennis, student council, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and fall play. She also is involved with Relay for Life. Her future plans are to attend Souther Illinois University at Carbondala WEIUwins student awards Several months ago, WEIU-TV News Watch submitted entries to the Broadcast Education Association's annual student awards. This isa national competition that draws entries from schools such as Chapel Hill, Arizona State, Penn State and the University of Southern California. Recently, WEIU-TV was notified that Jenni Ketchmark was named as a finalist for best student weathercaster in the country.

Winners will be awarded at the annual BE A convention next month in Las Vegas. In addition, WEnj-TV News Watch won a Region 5 first-place Mark of Excellence Award in the area of television newscast from the Society of Professional Journalists. More than 3,200 students enter the Mark of Excellence contest each year. As a first-place winner, News Watch will advance to the national round of the competition. National winners will be announced in mid-May.
