ka+tdalia New* During the month of October, the Cub Scouts of Den two visited the Oelwein fire station, had Mrs. Clair Claxton as their, guest for United Nations day when she showed slides and gave a very interesting talk. At their last meeting they carved jack-o-lanterns and had a Halloween party. The pumpkins and small gourds were given to the Cubs by Mr. and Mrs. Ladeburg of Oelwein. Jimmy Claxton and Ricky Schlee furnished the treats for these meetings. The Martha circle of the Woman's society of Christian Service will meet Nov. 15 with Mrs. Mary Beman or Mrs. Ben Turner. The Mary circle will meet with Mrs. Lee Jellings. Mrs. J. W. Frye returned home Thursday from her trip to California, where she visited her son, Robert. Mr. and Mrs. George Grimes of Waterloo spent the week-end with her father, Fred Orbell, and also called at the Ben Turner home. Mrs. Blanche Knight spent a few days recently with Mrs. Mate Spatcher at Janesville, Wis. Joan Lamphier was a Friday overnight and Saturday guest of Debra Thyer. Kenneth Nading was home Saturday and Sunday, returning to the hospital at Waterloo for further treatment, Sunday. Visitors from Friday evening until Sunday evening in the Lee Jellings home were Mr. and Mrs. Bill Gordon and family of Winterset. Sunday visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Harley Wcscott of Waverly, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Brown and Mrs. Madge Doran of Waterloo, Fay Davis of Oelwein, and Dean Jellings of Rochester, Minn. Mr. and Mrs. Deane Davis and Douglas were 'Sunday visitors in the Clair Anderman home in Oelwein. Mardcan Davis attended a birthday party for Janet Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Ewing of Savanna, 111., were recent overnight guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Jellings. Mr. and Mrs. Burton Odekirk, Warren and Anita were Tuesday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Odekirk in Waterloo. Attending the Woman's Society of Christian Service meeting at West Union, Friday afternoon, were Mrs. Ben Turner, Mrs. Vern Arthur, Mrs. Pearl Nading, Mrs. Ted Lenius, Mrs. Will Llewellyn, Mrs. Deane Davis, Mrs. Lee Jellings, Mrs. Robert Claxton, Mrs. Fred Finch, Mrs. Parker Davis and Mrs. Glen Holmes. Completes basic training MA.YNARD — Word received from the Lackland Air Force base in Texas states that Airman Cleo Cumberland has completed basic military training at the base and is being assigned to Hoffman AFB in New Mexico for on-the-job training as an engineer and scientific aide. Airman Cumberland, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Cumberland, is a 1955 graduate of the Maynard Consolidated school and a former student at Upper Iowa university. 30,000 bushels bin site Stored corn for sale Ellis Thompson, chairman of the Fayette county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation committee, today advised that 30*000 bushels of CCC bin site stored corn are being offered for sale on the basis of sealed competitive bids. All bids for the purchase of this corn must be received in the county A.S.C.S. office on or before 3 p. m., Nov. 13. Prospective bidders may make arrangements with the county A. S;C.S. office to examine the grain being offered for sale.
