I did not dispute the basic figures in his original article. What I did say, and still do, is that those figures did not justify the conclusions Dr. McBride seemed to draw from them. Whether the first objection in my letter was trivial is a matter I leave to the reader. Relative to the second objection, Dr. McBride did cite additional figures, admonishing me for not looking mem up before I wrote. I do not believe it should be the duty of any reader to supply additional statistics in support of an argument being presented to him. The argument should be capable of standing as originally presented. Again I leave this to the judgment of the reader. Recognizing the futility of trying to get in the last word in a dispute, let me reiterate my position in an effort to avoid any misunderstanding. My objection to Dr. McBride's article simply was that his apparent conclusions did not necessarily follow from the figures in the article. Anyone has the right to be critical of that situation.
