Total Value of State's Livestock and Poultry Up COLLEGE The total value of livestock and poultry on Texas farms and ranches on Jan. 1 was above a year ago, to the Texas Crop and stock Reporting Service. Cattle numbers were up hogs and turkeys Sheep numbers were down from last year, goats and chickens 10th, the Service said.

On the first day of the year the total value of livestock and poultry was set at $1.696.8 million. Cattle comprised 92.3% of the total. all sheep 3.9%, bogs 1.3%, goats 1.2% and poultry 1.3%. For the fourth consecutive year, Texas cattle numbers increased. There were 11,521,000 cartle in the state with an average value of $136.

Milk cow numbers, however, were below the 196S total with 000 head on Texas farms and ranches on Jan. 1, 1969. All sheep in the state totaled 3,949.000 head down from last year. Stock sheep were also down by but totel sheep on feed remained Unchanged at 242,000 head. All sheep were valued at $65.9 million.

Goat and kid numbers dropped from the 1968 figure to 2,929,000 head, valued at $6.70 per head. The current inventory had a farm value of $19.6 million, the Texas Crop and Livestock Reporting Service noted. All hogs totaled 943,000 head, up Hogs and pigs on Tex-! as farms and ranches were valued at $22.3 million or average of $23.70 per head. Chickens numbered 17,445,000 on Jan. 1, with a total farm value of $18.3 million.

Seitz and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Horton. John Ford, a teacher in the Denton Schools, is spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Jack Ford. John will attend school at North Texas State University during the last six weeks summer vacation. Mike Cummings, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Cummings Is visiting in Jal, N.M., with his uncle, Ellison Cummings.

Guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Covey over the week end were their daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Olan Moore of Lubbock.

They also visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Thomason.
