Waverly Man In New Manager Of Sears Store LARRY BUHR Larry Buhr, above, Waverly, is the manager of the new Sears store which opened Monday, Nov. 28 in Algona. Larry, a 1965 graduate of Wartburg College, has been in the Sears organization the past two years. His wife, Janice, and son Brian will join him when suitable housing is available In Algona. Bologna, Sausage Day, Lone Rock, Set For Dec. 3 LONE ROCK-In appreciation of the fine crops and the fine weather to harvest the crops, the Lone Rock Co-Op Exchange is sponsoring the following: A Felco Bologna & Sausage Pancake Day on Saturday, December 3rd, at the Lone Rock Legion Hall at 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. The Lone Rock Legion men will do the serving and it is for all the family. There will be a ; , turkey given away each half hour," and a grand prize of either one ton of fertilizer or one ton cat- tle, bog, or poultry feed. L. W. Geltzenauer, manager of the Co-op, invites the family to town to be the guests of the elevator on Dec. 3rd. There will also be representatives of Farmers Regional in the office to visit. Several Cresco Chums Receive Varied Awards Cresco Chums 4-H Clubaward night was held with seven other clubs Nov. 8 at the Algona High School Annex. The club was given country recognition for its part in carrying out a community project. Top record awards were given to Sheila Frideres and Susan Smith for ceniors; Mary Besch, intermediate; and Rhonda Sabin, junior. These girls and Marian Frideres received pens from the Iowa State Bank for having books 95 and above. Linda Meehlhause received a reading award, merit award, dress revue award and an eight- year seal. Susan Smith was given a five- year certificate, money management award and a home economics award. Sheila Frideres was given an eight-year seal, Marilyn Roethler a six-year seal, Marcia Sabin a six-year seal, Mary Zaugg a five-year certificate and Debbie Sabin a five-year certificate and reading award. Completion seals were given to Mary and Patty Besch, Becky Buscher, Gloria Canaday, Edna, Marian and Sheila Frideres, Linda and Zelda Meehlhause, Kathleen Miller, Rhonda Peck, Diane Jacque, Marilyn and Virginia Roethler, Debbie. Marcia and Rhonda Sabin, Jane Simpson, Susan Smith, Debbie Specht, Dawn Wildin and Mary Zaugg. The regular 4-H meeting of the Cresco Chums was held Nov. 7 at the Extension office with Becky Buscher and Jane Simpson hostesses. A demonstration was given by Jane Simpson. Talks were given by Sue Smith and Edna Frideres. ..The Christmas party, to be held Dec. 20, was discussed. Guests were Mrs. C. E. Zaugg, Mrs. Ed Frideres, Mrs. Bob Buscher, Mrs. Dick Simpson, Mrs. Marlin Meehlhause, Mrs. Jim Wildin, Mrs. Kenneth Roethler and Mrs. Les Wildin. Leaders were Mrs. Wayne Smith and Mrs. Jim Besch. Struck By Car, Algonan Now Recovering Bill Milder, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Milder, Algona, and former star athlete at Garrigan High School here prior to his graduation last spring, sustained bruises, severe lacerations and cuts on his hips and thighs In a near-tragic freak mishap 3 1/4 miles west of Algona on McGregor Road at 7 p.m. Thursday. He was rushed immediately to Mercy hospital at Mason City where he is expected to remain for at least two weeks. Young Milder was struck by an auto driven by Larry M. Vigdal, 18, Whittemore as the former stood near the middle of the road. The Vigdal auto then struck Milder's car, with an estimated $200 damage to the vehicles. Vigdal then rushed the injured youth to St. Ann hospital here and he was transfered to Mason City. It was not known exactly why young Milder stopped the auto, which was headed east, on the south side of the road and got out. Vigdal, also headed east, -Algona, (la.) The Vigdal auto skidded, struck Milder and the left side of the Milder car. Milder, a student at St. Benedict's College, Atcliison, Kans., was home for Thanksgiving. Sheriff Ralph Lindhorst investigated the mishap. BEAVER '. ~ Jerry Poling, 'State Center, had an exceptional weekend trapping last month. He came home with 6 beaver and over 60 muskrats. One beaver tipped the scales at 61 pounds and another weighed 49 pounds.
