C. E. MORSE, Agent. riymoiith, May 20, lfcM. CrWe have just learned that W.

J. Walker, of LaPorte, has made an assignment to P. Ludlow, for the boneGt of I113 creditors. We understand this t-tep was caused by Mr. Walker endorsing heavily for an east ern gentleman, reputed very wealthy; but Avho proved to bo worthless.

Tho terms of the assignment are in tho following preferred order, to-wit: 1st All debts owing to his employees, aud working-men; 2d All creditors who have loaned him money, and assisted him otherwise, aa endorsers, kc; 3d All other creditors. It is believed there is sufficient property, if economically settled, to pay all indebtedness. We regret to have to record this of one of our best, and most extensive business men in Northern Indiana; but misfortune to be the common lot of all in this financial storm. It however, our firm belief that Mr. Walker will ono day rise above these present embarrassments, and enjoy that success in tho business world his superior capacities merit.

The people have unbounded confidence in his integrity, and would assist him to a man, ia any enterprise he might yet undertake. itiTThe Plymouth Branch of the Bank of the State ha3 changed hands. O. P. LuJW, President, and P.

Walker, Cashier, have sold their interest to John P. Eaily, of New York City, and E. S. Or-ga, of LaPortc. Our friend II.

Early will still continue to be the Teller. Small Pox has road its appearance in this town. From ten to fifteen CJ3es arc' reported. iCSTDuring a recent trip over that excellent line, the Mich. Sou.

J. Walkar has returned from New York, where hi has been negotiating for tho completion of C. Rail KoaJ. Ilia negotiations were not entirely successful, bat he 13 still quito eanguine that through the int action of other interested roads, it will, sooner or later, be built. prepared to do wool-carding, on short notice.

Evening Post, that upon'a certain interview between tho Hon. D. C.Broder-ick and myself, thr.t gentleman "turned up- on him (English) with and indignant Get out of my coy you VVPIJV- English shrunk from the glanco of.lie gallant Californian, and spaniel-like, obeed tho command without a whine." Allow me a small place in your paper to say that the above adds another to the Tiurnerouar sUndera now being circulated against me by the meaner porticn of the republican press. IVo such language was ever addressed to me by Senator Broderick, and, so far as I know, the relations existing between that gentleman and myself are of a friendly character. Ver reFpectfullr.
