The combination is good enough and balanced enough to make a wonderful meall >•" BUTTERMILK BREAD 1 cup buttermilk 1 package or cake Fleischmann's 3 tablespoons tugar Yeast, acdve dry or compressed 2)4 teaspoons s&lt Vi teaspoon baking soda 6 tablespoons thortening 6 cups sifted all-purpose • 1 cup very wurm water flour (shout) Heat buttermilk. S'lr In sugar, salt and shortening. Cool to lukewarm. Measure v«y <«am water into a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle or crumble in yeast. Stir until dissolved. Add lukewarm milk mixture. Combine baking sod*, oid 3 rups of the flour. Add to yeast mixture and beat until smooth. Stir in remaining flour. Turn dough out on lightly floured board. Kncai! until smooth and clastic. Place don jh in a greased bowL Brush top lightly with soft rhottcning. Covur with a towel. Let rise ia a warm place, free from draft, ur til doubled in bulk, about 1 hour. Punch down and turn out on lightly floured board. Divide in half. Shape into loaves; place In greased hreud pans (9x5x3 Inches). Brush top with melted shortening. Covet. let rtsc in a warm place, free from draft, until center of loaf is slightly higher than edge of pan, about 1 hour. Du»c with a little flour. Bake at 400T. about 50 minutes. Makes 2 loaves.
