FENTON FIRE CALL Ftnten — The fire department answered a call Friday afternoon to put out a grass fire on the Richard Underwood farm east of town. The fire was at the northeast of the farm buildings and close to two small buildings. Firemen had the blaze under control quickly, and no damage was done. The Underwoods were not at home at the time. POSTMASTER~BACK Livermore — Mrs. Mary Colwell, local postmaster, has returned to her duties at the post office after several weeks absence due to illness. WINS ESSAY~CONTEST Fenton — Don Matthiesen, 17, Fenton, won top honors for Kossuth April 27 in the DEK Rural Electric Cooperative Essay contest at the Gardston hotel in Estherville. Nine finalists, three each from Dickinson, Emmet, and Kossuth, and their parents were guests at a banquet and the three county winners were chosen after they read their essays. The DEK cooperative has taken part in this program for the past seven years. The three winners will receive a ten-day trip to Washington, - D. C. in June. Don is the son of the Homer Matthiesens, Fenton, and is a junior at Sentral. : LuVERNE PROGRAM LuVerne — The lower elementary grades will be presented in a spring program Friday, May 7, at 2:00 p.m. in the lunchroom. "Down Mother Goose Lane" will be given by Mrs. Ericksbn's arid Mrs. Wise's rooms, and Mrs. Pfeffer's and Mrs. Selvig's rooms will present "Wheri We Were Very Young". The public is invited to attend. WINS IN BUTTERMAKING Bancroft — A. M. Schrandt, Bancroft Co-Op Creamery manager, won first place honors for buttermaking at the annual meeting of member creameries of the State Brand Creameries at Mason City recently. He received a first place plaque and $100 cash award. KICKED BY HORSE '.'. . • Irvington — Vicki Siemer, who was kicked on the head by a horse Easter Sunday, is still 'carrying some black -and blue marks.' Vicki was at the LeRoy Christiansen home and was leading a riding horse belonging to the Orlan Otts. The horse is not vicious but was frightened by a cat. Vicki was thrown off and it is believed she was kicked as the horse jumped over her. Besides the severe bruises she was cut on the forehead and nose. FIRE CALLS Livermore — The fire truck answered two calls Friday. One was to the Don Kiley farm where a tractor was on fire 'and one to the Livermore oil station where a bon fire threatened the buildings of the sta tion, DOLPHIN DIRECTOR Bancroft — Rita Hendrickson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Richard Chipman, Bancroft, was one of the co-directors of the Mankato State college Dolphin show held recently.
