4s Treas. 3s Treas. 3s Stock sales 770.160. Bonds 58,533.000. New York AP The stock market chose Monday to indulge in nothing more strenuous than a mere round of aimless and insignificant shadow boxing.

Stocks mulled about lazily during the entire trading session, the close was narrowly irregular, with changes more or less evenly divided between the winners and Volume -was only 770,160 shares, the smallest since April 4th. The Associated Press-Standard Statistics composite of 90 selected issues showed a net decline for the day of seven-tenths of a points. Commodity markets were colorless and quiet, too, almost as if the mid-summer lethargy surrounding stocks had been contagious. Trading in grains, proceeding in a listless manner, resulted mostly in fractional declines. Cotton lost 70 to 85 cents a bale.

Utilities Weaker Foreign exchange trailed along in the same spirit, with final quotations for the dollar generally limited to small advances. The market for metals showed a generally steady tone. In the stock list the utilities seemed to be singled out for. selling more than any other group. Wall Street attributed this, for the most part, to rate uncertainties.

Among the utilities, Consolidated Gas, North American and Public Service of New Jersey, lost from fractions to more than a point. Steel Steady Rails were soft despite an interstate commerce commission decision refusing to sanction lower freight rates. The steel group remained steady throughout the day. United States Steel, Bethlehem, and Republic were slighty higher at the final gong. A more robust showing was made by Chrysler, Hercules Powder, Great Western Sugar preferred, Endicott Johnson, Dunhill International, and Reynolds Tobacco all of which advanced from 1 to around 2 points.

The business picture was generally viewed with satisfaction in financial quarters. Hog Market, Lower Chicago AP i Continuation of the heavy marketing trend sent cattle and hog prices lower Monday. Market observers saw in it an owen that the liberal runs will last through to the fall packing season. Hog receipts in Chicago during July were 45 per cent, higher than in July, 1932, and cattle 35 per cent, higher. About 15,000 of the hogs received were consigned direct to packers.

The close was 20 to 30 cents lower. Most late sales were at $4.25 downward; holdovers totalled 6,000. Shippers took 5,000. The better grade fed steers and long yearlings were weak to 25 changed at 35. Toledo Seeds Close Clover: Cash $8.50: Oct.

Strs 50 Close Mon. 2 3 3 5 45 10 28- SEE LARGER CROP, GRAIN MART LOWER Chicago Pit Quiet Awaiting Development of Federal Plans EASY AT CLOSE Chicago AP Awaiting developments in the national recovery plan, wheat prices averaged a little lower Monday, affected somewhat by liberal enlargement of the domestic wheat visible supply. The country's stock of wheat in sight showed 3.057,000 bushels increase during the past week, compared with 992.000 increase a year ago. With holidays at Winnipeg and Liverpool, speculative interest was restricted, and the market responsive to any good buying or selling, but displaying no pronounced trend.

Wheat closed easy; 5-3 under Saturday's finish, corn 5-1 cent down, oats i-i off, and provisions unchanged to a setback of 15 cents. Early Advance Wheat made a hesitating start, and then advanced moderately on account of apparent likelihood of unwelcome higher temperatures in Canada, where crops had suffered severe losses. Buying was also promoted temporarily by attention given to the fact that of late the September delivery of wheat had gained relative to December. Friends of higher prices said this circumstance pointed to inherent market strength as generally shown in past experience whenever a nearby contract was notably firmer than deferred futures. Report Rains Selling augmented on wheat price advances, however, especially after rains at various points in Canada dispelled uneasiness regarding possibilities of a new heat wave.

On the other hand, a sustaining influence came from reports that throughout Minnesota, the Dakotas and Montana, conditions were such that the Northwest this season would not raise more than 150.000-000 bushels of bread wheat and bushels of durum. The same reports indicated, nevertheless, that wheat heads were well developed, and that there would not be much light-test wheat. Corn and oats largely followed i wheat. Sunday rains, especially in 1 Iowa, were a bearish factor as to corn. Provisions inclined downward, paralleling the action of hog values.
