Fayette Leader Page 3 July gfl. 1961 FayeJte, Iowa A miscellaneous shower was given Margaret Talcott Wednesday evening in the church socal room. A piano solo was given by Mardene Davis. Bridal bingj was played, with Miss Talcott receiving all prizes. She will become the bride of Martin Boedeker, Saturday, July 29, in the Methodist church in Randalia at 4 p. m. The Bennett - Burger reunion was held Sunday at Klock's Island, Fayette, with 48 relatives present from Independence, Waterloo, Oelwein, Fayette, West Union and Randalia. Leland King was elected president and Mrs. Violet Brown, secretary and treasurer. There were three babies born during the year. New sidewalks have been poured by Spahn and Rose from Maynard, at the Odd Fellow building, the Woman's Relief Corps hall, the Methodist church and the Floyd Hack, J. W. Frye and Ernest Bachman homes. The church will be painted Saturday, July 22. Anyone wishing to help may do so. The women will serve dinner for the painters. Mrs. Mayme Severson left Saturday to visit her son George and family at Sioux City, after a two week's stay with Mrs. J. W. Frye. Wilma McBride attended the camp at Charles City last week. Mr. and Mrs. Charles McBride and family attended Baptismal servce on the Turkey river west of Clermont at the Gospel church Sunday afternoon. Faye and Wilma sang "No, Not One". Mrs. Ruth Whiteford and sister Mrs. Kenneth Hammerstrom of Ricevillt visited the former's daughter, Lynda, at Minneapolis, Minn., Thursday and Friday. Several from this community attended the wedding of Barbara Miner and Gordon Lauer at the Grace Lutheran church in Fayette, Sunday afternoon. U.I.U. on approved LUt of A.A. of U.W. Upper Iowa university, Fayette, has been placed on the approved list of the American Association of University Women, it was announced recently by Dr. Eunice C. Roberts, chairman of the A. A. U. W. committee on higher education. All women graduates of U. I. U. will now be eligible for membership in the A. A. U. W., the largest organization of university women in the world. Approval by the organization was voted last month during its annual convention held in Denver, Colorado. When notified of the approval, Dr. Bugene E Garbee, U.I.U. president, commented: "This is approval we have sought, and it definitely increases the stature of the University in the eyes of the world of education." One of the latest requirements of the AAUW to be met by Upper Iowa was the addition of a department of physical education for women. Other requirements had been met earlier, Dr. Garbee stated. Receive scholarships Merit and alumni scholarships have been awarded to 85 upper classmen at Iowa State university in Ames. The awards, ranging from $100 to $300, are for the 1961-62 academic year. Scholarship winners have grade point averages of at least 2.5 and have attended Iowa State for at least one year. Among those receiving a scholarship was Lois Bennington, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Bennington of Fayette, who is majoring in phys. ed. Alan Davis of Wadena was another from this area receiving a scholarship.
