applicants for TV channel 13 in the' Norfolk Hampton Va area have aS asked for temporary authority to use that channel while their contest goes through hearing The applicants are Virginian Television Corp associated with radio stations WBO Virginia Beachand WRNB New Bern channel 15 station WVEC TV of Hampton and channel sta tion 27 WTOV TV of Norfolk WVEC TV as advised the com mission its signals are being sub jected to an odd type of inter ference Which has been traced to radiation thrown out by receiving sets turned to channel 10 station WAVY TV WVEC TV asked for use of Channel 13 to relieve this situation WTOV said it is better pre pared to inaugurate service on channel 13 than is WVEC TV Virginian' Television today also applied for temporary use at channel 13 NOROLK New assignments as to be close per cent Nationally the same survey which was made as of Match 15 revealed the vacancy rate at 29 per cent An HA spokesman said that while the vacancy rate was a little higher than the 24 per cent reported as of March 31 1957 it was below the national rates for the three preceding years which were: 1956 3 2 per cent 1955 44 per cent and 35 per cent 4 So far as Norfolk is concerned the vacancy rate during the spring survey approximated the findings of a similar study a year earlier Village Excluded The survey figures for the Norfolk area excluded Glenwood Village where 1146 of the 1600 units were found vacant when the enumerators called The HA explained that con sidering that this project is in the liquidation stage it was felt it should not be chargeable to the vacancy rate If 'in cluded the vacancy rate would have jumped to 94 per cent Most HA rental units through out other parts of Virginia were found to have comparatively few vacancies ewer Vacancies In the Norfolk fewer vacancies were found in projects near to or reserved for occu pancy by the military?
