Associated Press INGLEWOOD, Calif. Former heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali declared Tuesday, "I've learned my lesson.

I played too much. Half the time I didn't run. "This time I'll be serious. I'm already working and in the fight I'll be dancing from beginning to end." Ali and Ken Norton, the Californian who broke All's jaw and outpointed him last March 31, appeared at the Forum, site of their Sept. 10 rematch, for a formal signing ceremony.

Promoter Don Fraser of the sponsoring Forum Boxing Club predicted a California record live gate of more than $700,000 and Bob Aru mof New York said more than one million persons were expected to watch the 12-round fight on closed circuit television. Norton, a virtually unknown 28-year-old ex-Marine until his upset of Ali, turned to Ali and said, "Everything has changed, thanks to you, Muhammad. He made only $50,000 for his first meeting with the ex-champ and before that $8.000 had been tops in his career.

The two fighters disagreed on the round during which Ali suffered the broken jaw in the 12-round initial meeting at San Diego. "First they said it was in the first round and they disproved that. Then they said the second and that was disproved. I don't know when I broke it, I'm not a doctor," commented Norton. "I would guess one of the latter rounds." Muhammad, asked the same question, maintained, "It was the second, round.

Exactly. I know that." AH receives a $275,000 guarantee for the rematch compared to $210,000 for the first bout. Clyde, a southpaw pitcher, was the first player chosen in last week's free agent draft. Ranger President Bob Short, who made the announcement, wouldn't disclose the amount of the contract but called it substantial.

Clyde, an 18 year old from Houston, pitched nine no-hit games in Texas high school competition. Kekich sent to Cleveland OAKLAND (AP)-The New York Yankees Tuesday traded controversial pitcher Mike Kekich to the Cleveland Indians in exchange for minor league pitcher Lowell Palmer and a player to be named later. Kekich, a left-hander who won 10 games in each of the past two seasons, drew considerable attention in spring training when it was revealed that he had exchanged families with Yankee pitcher Fritz Peterson. Kekich, 28, came to New York from the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1968 in a trade for outfielder Andy Kosco. He had a 31-32 record in five seasons with the Yankees, but was 1-1 in just five games this year, with an earned run average of 9.20.

Palmer, 25, has compiled a 3-13 record with three major league teams. A hard-throwing right hand'er, he has a 5-3 mark with Cleveland's top farm club, Oklahoma City of the American Association. Palmer's contract will be transferred to the Yankees' Syracuse farm team, but he will continue to pitch for Oklahoma City on loan. The trade opens a spot on the New York roster for pitcher Sam McDowell, whom the Yankees acquired last week from the San Francisco Giants. Beard finally broke through Rick Kraft's stranglehold last week in open expert competition and wants to prove he has a good thing going. Sellers' time came in the 250 novice main where he beat Brad Nicks, who was timed in 17.53 in winning the 500 novice main. Nicks will be seeking to catch point leader Doc Carney in that class, trailing by 15 points in one of the closest bike classes at Manzanita. Tandy Adams, Dan Croyle and Mike Selby are separated by only 19 points in 500 experts.
