C. Lloyd Bailey of New York, executive of the United States committee for UNICEF, was honored at a reception at the Clair Claxton home Thursday afternoon. Others present were: Mrs. Robert Jaggard, Mrs. Gerald Wetlaufer and Mrs. C. C. Henderson of Oelwein; Mrs. Merle Hotchkiss of Lament; Mrs. Elsa Rose and Mrs. Bert Hanson of West Union; Mrs. Dwight Fausch and Judy of Maynard; Mrs. Howard Sullivan, Mrs. Burton Odekirk, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Thyer and Mrs. Wayne Butterfield of Randalia; Mrs. William Kearney of Hawkeye, and the host couple, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Claxton, Barbara, Judy and James. The Woman's Society of Christian Servke will meet Wednesday, Juno 7, in the church social room with Mrs. Dick Vargason and Mrs. Donna Johnson as hostesses. The program "Home for the homeless", will be presented by Mrs. Harold Heitzman and Mrs. Myron docker- ham. Roll call to be answered by household hints. The sixth grade students had a roller skating party at West Union Tuesday afternoon. Taking them to the party were Mrs. Ray Paulsen, Mrs. Charles McBride, Mrs. Ricks and Mrs. Jesse. Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Claxton of 'Fayette, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Claxton and Mr. and Mrs. Ben Turner went by bus from Oelwein Thursday to Des Moines to a musical festival. Recent visitors in the Leslie Oakes home were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Chase of Fairbank, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Cluts and Julie of Waterloo, and Mrs. Raymond Geiseman of Sumner. Mrs. Bert Weidemann is in the university hospital at Iowa City for surgery. Her address is Ward C 32. Leland Benter underwent surgery at the Sumner community hospital, Wednesday. Howard Sullivan is a patient in the Palmer Memorial hospital at West Union. Mr. and Mrs. Sam McBride of Des Moines were Saturday visitors of his brother, Charles Mc- iBride and family. Mrs. David Wells spent a few days with Mrs. Mark Risinger at Clear Lake. Mrs. Risinger had gone a few days earlier to open up their fishing dock. Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Arthur and Mrs. Vern Arthur attended commencement at Waukon. Their nephew and grandson, Scott Grant, was one of the graduates. Lavern Grant accompanied them home to spend a few days with his grandmother. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Nadmg and Richard left Friday for a visit with their son, Elvm and family, at Alexandria, La. Ronnie Barter is visiting a lew days with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Turner, enroute from Chanute Field, Illinois, to Sacramento, Calif., where he will be statwned with the army air force. •Mr. and Mrs. Fred Waskow, Evelyn and George, of Sumner, and Mrs. Sarah Waskow of Waterloo were Saturday evening visitors in the Leslie Oakes home.
