Tn recent years by ap proving the report and recom mendations of its four year col lege committee in its entirety rom this action stemmed thei following developments: I 1 A statement by Alvin Duke Chandler president of the College of William and Mary that recommendations of the commit tee are in accord with my views as to the eventual development of four year programs leading to degrees at the Norfolk 2 A disclosure by James Robertson Norfolk attorney who is rector of the William and Mary board of visitors that some time President Chandler and his faculty committees with the knowledge and approval of the board have been investigating the possibility of establishing ad ditional degree courses at the Norfolk Division The degree pro grams now under study include teacher training and advanced courses in busmess administra tion 3 An announcement by Demo cratic organization candidates in the forthcoming primary to select delegates to the General Assembly ofdhelr approval of the program 4 The disclosure by Donald Shriver secretary manager of the Chamber that John Alfriend president of the commerce organi zatlon is planning to appoint I without delay a steering commit tee to consult with William and Mary authorities on how best to Integrate and harmonize the plans of the two groups View I Alfriend following the meeting expressed the view that the four year college committee which is headed by Lampert a former chairman of the Norfolk School Board has come forth with a practical plan to meet the higher educational needs of this drea i view of the tremendous cost
