Box 181 La Crosse, Wis. 16-1-x Wait for future and Miss today's pleasures Do you ever wonder why some families seem to have so much fun together, while others appear to be restless and bored with one another? Having fun together as a family doesn't "Just happen," says Nancy Lysen, extension assistant in child development at Iowa State University. It's something a family develops through the years. It's easy to say, "Won't we have fun when Jane finally gets in school and is past this messy stage?" or "I'm really looking forward to the time when the children are old enough to make up a bridge foursome; then we can really have fun as a family." But if you always "just endure" the present and wait for the- future, you're apt to be disappointed. You must learn to share your child's interests at every stage if you want him to join in with your adult activities as he grows older. You won't have to look far for things you can do together as a family from the time your child is a toddler on up. He may even introduce you to a whole world of things—be it. nature hikes, collecting stones, or even bugs. Encourage his early interests and share his enthusiasms, or those precious childhood years will pass almost before you know it. husband or wife of a share* £h the property. If the will gives a spouse less than he or she would be entitled; to as "dower" (the share the husband or wife would take if no will was made) the spouse may reject the will and take the share that the law would give. The distribution of property concerning others in the will would still be governed by the will itself, however, says Timmons. Only in a will, said Timmons, can the testator free his executor from giving bond, make administration of the will easier, set up a trust for minor children, and specify what property should be used for taxes, debts, and the like. There are four general steps in drawing up a will, continued Timmons- First, consider all property owned; second, consider all persons to be provided for; third, decide in a general way what should be done; have the will properly prepared by an attorney. When the time comes to make a will they put it off, says Agricultural Economist John F- Timmons of Iowa State University. Timmons says it will almost always pay anyone to assure security to his family through a will. "Both young and old need a will, he points out. The young farmer runs about the same risks as does an older person. But, because the older person usually has more property, problems that •arise from lack of a will could be more difficult for his heirs. Making a will is fairly simple to do. There are few restrictions as to how it shall be made out. The most important limitations, says Timmons, prevents a person from depriving a surviving Fall Ronald Rayner of Lone Tree recently escaped death when ha and three fellow workmen plunged 55 feet onto a concrete floor from a scaffold inside a silo under construction.
