DECATUR HERALD Decatur, Illinois, Friday, April 6, 1979 33 Macon County, central Illinois deaths Edmonston Jerry Alan Edmonston, 45, of Columbia, formerly of Decatur, died Wednesday (April 1979) in University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore, Md. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Dawson Wikoff Funeral Home, with visitation 11:30 a.m. Monday until service time. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery.

Mr. Edmonston was born in Valley City, a son of Clarence and Freda Edmonston. He was zone manager of General Electric a 1960 graduate of Millikin University, and member of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He married Carol Mae Zimmer in 1956. Surviving are his wife; sons, Mark Alan, Stephan Wayne and Andrew Clayton, all at home; parents, of Pittsfield; sister, Mrs.

David (Betty) Anderson of Springfield. Farr Glenn A. Farr, 84, of 1905 W. Cushing St. died 3:40 p.m.

Thursday (April 5, 1979) in Lakeshore Manor Nursing Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at J. J. Moran Sons Funeral Home. He was a member of Mattoon Kiwanis Club, 35-year director of First Federal Savings and Loan, Mattoon, member of First Methodist Church of Mattoon, Moose Lodge 803, American Legion, the 40 and 8 and was a veteran of World War I.

He married Mary L. Henley in 1922. She died in 1977. Surviving are daughter, Mrs. William R.

(Louise) Thod of Mattoon; grandson, Jerry Zolada of Tolono, granddaughter, Mrs. Judy Morris of Charleston, S.C., both of whom he reared; four other grandchildren. One daughter preceded him in death. Ray Myrl I. Ray, 78, of Altamont died 4:55 p.m.

Wednesday (April 4, 1979) in the -United Methodist Village, Lawrence-ville. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in First United Methodist Church, Altamont. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Giesking Funeral Home, Altamont, with 8 p.m.

Eastern Star service. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Altamont Memorials: First United Methodist Church, Altamont, and United Methodist Village, Law-renceville. Miss Ray was born in Sullivan, daughter of Christopher and Carrie Ray. She was a retired telephone operator, member of First United Methodist Church, Altamont, Order of Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodge. Surviving are brothers, Clifford of Altamont; Russell of Jenks, Okla.

One sister and five brothers preceded her in death. Rooney Mrs. John (Gladys M. Lee Rooney), 74, of Robinson died Wednesday morning (April 4, 1979) in St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Robinson, with visitation after 3 p.m. Friday at Buchanan Funeral Home, Robinson, with 7:30 p.m. rosary.

Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery. Memorials: Crawford Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Rooney was born in Lawrence-ville, daughter of Arthur C. and Louisa Lee.

She married John Rooney in 1931. Surviving are her husband; son, John of Houston, Texas; daughters, Mrs. Anne Loy of Peru, Mrs. Carolyn Connelly of Plainfield, N.J.; sister, Mrs. Virginia McCarthy of Danville; 10 grandchildren.

Miller, 70, of Neoga died 1:26 a.m. Thursday (April 5, 1979) in Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home, Neoga, with visitation 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Burial will be in Neoga Memorial Cemetery. He was born in AllenvUle, son of Edwin and Rosa Walls Miller. He was a retired employee of the city of Neoga and member of First Christian Church of Neoga. He married Anna M. Odle in 1927.

Surviving are his wife; sons, Richard of Fayetteville, N.C.; Dean of Neoga; Donald of Mattoon; daughters, Mrs. John (Louise) Crawford of Muskegon, Mrs. Walter (Barbara) Soko-" losky of Las Vegas, Mrs. Danny (Judy) Bridges of Windsor; brother, Lester of Decatur; 21 grandchildren. Nichols Edgar S.

Nichols, 82, of Monticello died 8:45 p.m. Wednesday (April 4, 1979) in his home. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Monticello Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m.

Friday in Mackey Funeral Home, Monticello. Mr. Nichols was born in Tower Hill, son of Sam and Doris Nichols. He was a retired jeweler. He married Zetta A.

Morgan in 1928. She died in 1978. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Harry (B. Jane) Butler of Bethany; Mrs.

Paul (Helen Ann) Gribbons of Roswell, brothers, Ray of Wood River; Claude of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Dwight of Flushing, sisters, Mrs. Florence Bur-dick of Decatur; Mrs. Alta Johnson of Daytona Beach, three grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Owings Clyde N. Owings, 82, of Mattoon died 9:30 a.m.

Wednesday (April 4, 1979) in his home. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Schilling's Funeral Home, Mattoon, with visitation 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Dodge Grove Cemetery, Mattoon.

Mr. Owings was born in Coles County, son of Romeo A. and Nellie Owings. He was owner and operator of Owings Drugs, Mattoon, for more than 40 years. Marbel W.

Lester Marbel, 76, of Effingham died 10:55 p.m. Tuesday (April 3, 1979) in St. Anthony Memorial Hospital, Effingham. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. urday in Brummerstedt Funeral Home, Stewardson, jvith Masonic rites and visitation 10 a.m.

until service time. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery. Mr. Marbel was born in Missouri, son of William and Carrie Marbel. He was a retired service manager with Ford Motor Co.

He was a 50-year member of Wilson Masonic Lodge 613 of Ferguson, member of the Order of Eastern Star 54, St. Louis, St. Alderman Com-mandry 18 of St. Louis, past Grand Royal Patron of Order of Amarath of Missouri and Corinthian Conclave 11, Missouri. He married Bertha Burgess, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are his stepdaughter, Mrs. Betty Harrison of Stewardson; two step-grandchildren; four great-step-grandchildren. McGowan James R. McGowan, 79, of Lawndale died 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (April 4, 1979) in Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Fricke Funeral Home, Lincoln, with visitation 5 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Lincoln. Mr.

McGowan was born in Lincoln, son of Edward and Ethel McGowan. He was a retired supervisor of signals and communications at the Illinois Terminal Railroad, member of First United Methodist Church of Lincoln, past governor of the Moose Lodge, member of Edwardsville Moose Lodge 1561, business manager and general chairman of IBEW Local 427. He married Wilma Wise in 1924. Surviving are his wife; daughter, Elna McGowan, at home; sisters, Mabel Easley, Mrs. George (Myrle) Martin and Mrs.

John (Mary Kay) Young, all of Lincoln. Four sisters and four brothers preceded her in death. Miles Mrs. Dean (Joyce Bingaman) Miles, 41, of rural Pana died 6 p.m. Wednesday (April 4, 1979) in Pana Community Hospital.

Macon County Atkinson -Mrs. Kurt (Jill Lorraine Willoughby) Atkinson, 21, of 1743 E. Decatur formerly of Arthur, died 6 p.m. Wednesday (April 4, 1979) in St. Mary's Hospital.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Vine Street Christian Church, Arthur, with visitation 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Shrader Funeral Home, Arthur. Burial will be in Arthur Cemetery. Bond Mrs.

Roy (Bernice C. Andrick) Bond, 61, of 2292 Samuels St. died 9 a.m. Wednesday (April 4, 1978) in St. John's Hospital, Springfield.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Brintlinger's Pershing Funeral Home, with visitation after 5 p.m. Friday. Entombment will be in Star of Hope Mausoleum. Memorials: Decatur Memorial Hospital cardiac care unit.

Mrs. Bond was born in Pekin, daughter of Lawrence and Ivanilla Shue Andrick. She was office manager and treasurer at Marvel-York Credit Union and was 1973 Manager of the Year of the Illinois Credit Union League. She was past secretary of Ralph G. Long Chapter of the Illinois Credit Union League.

She married Roy Bond in 1940. Surviving are her husband; sons, Wil-. liam Lawrence of St. Louis; James Michael of Country Club Hills; mother of Decatur; four grandchildren. One brother preceded her in death.

J. Moran Sons Funeral Home. Dale Miss Sarah Dale, 85, of 450 N. College St. died 10:53 a.m.

Wednesday (April 4, 1979) in St. Mary's Hospital. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in J.J. Moran Sons Funeral Home with visitation 4 to 8 p.m.

Friday. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Miss Dale was born in Decatur, daughter of William and Amanda Morthland Dale. She was a retired Tay-lorville and Decatur school teacher, was employed by the Department of Public Aid, member of the Audubon Society, graduate of Millikin University, member of First United Methodist Church and a member of National Retired Teachers Association. VanDerVoort' Robert VanDerVoort, 59, of 3815 Main St. died 11:35 a.m. Wednesday (April 4, 1979) in Decatur Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Dawson Wikoff Funeral Home, with visitation after 5 p.m.

Friday. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials: American Cancer Society. Von Wiegand Ross A. Von Wiegand of New York City, formerly of Decatur, died Thursday (April 5, 1979) in Lennox Hill Hospital, New York City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Dawson Wikoff Funeral Home. Mr. Von Wiegand was born in Fremont, son of Henry and Bertha A. Von Wiegand. He was a labor manager with the National Council on Alcoholism and an Army veteran of World War II.

He married Lisa Johnson in 1967. Surviving are his wife; son, Ross A. Jr. of Chicago; daughter, Pamela Von Wiegand of Minneapolis, Minn. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Central Illinois Baity Roy E. Baity, 65, of St. Louis, died 6 a.nx Wednesday (April 4, 1979) St. Louis. Graveside services will be 11 a.m.

Friday in Oddfellow Cemetery, Xenia, with John T. Frank Funeral Home, Flora, in charge. Mr. Baity was born in Memphis, son of Anson and Ethel Baity. He was a construction electrician.

He married Edna Dyere, formerly of Xenia. Surviving are his wife; son, Roy, of Manchester, Mo. daughter, Mrs. Billy Jean Koskie of Minden, Mrs. Jerry Sue Hutter of Florissant, nine grandchildren; two grandchildren.

Callie Mrs. McGinness Ross Callie, 80, of Casey died 5:45 p.m. Wednesday (April 4, 1979) in Charleston Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Greenwell and Son Funeral Home, Casey, with visitation after 4 p.m.

Friday. Burial will be in Casey Washington Street Cemetery. Mrs. Callie was born in Cumberland County, daughter of Willis and Ann Ross. She was a member of Casey Church of Christ and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are daughters, Mary Lou Davis of Casey; Margaret Cunningham and Melba Birchwood, both of Paris; sister, Bonnie Hardy of Greenup; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Dumford Harry N. Dumford, 75, of Olney died 11:45 a.m. Thursday (April 5, 1979) at Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney. Funeral services will be 2 p.m.

Sunday at Summers Funeral Home, Olney, with visitation 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Liberty Cemetery, Wakefield. Mr. Dumford was born in Richland County, son of Peter and Katherine Dumford.

He was a retired farmer. He married Fern Childress in 1929. Surviving are his wife; sister, Mrs. Emma Brumm of Alberta, Canada. Three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Gaffner Gerald L. Gaffner, 40, of Signal Mountain, formerly of Greenville, died 11 p.m. Thursday (April 4, 1979) in his home. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Greenville, with Dewey-Schildknecht Funeral Home, Greenville, in charge.

Mr. Gaffner was born in Greenville, son of Harold and Marguerite Gaffner. He was an attorney, a cum laude graduate of the University of Illinois and the of I Law School. He was a member of the American Bar Association and the Tennessee, Illinois, Missouri, St. Louis and Chattanooga bar associations, the Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga and the American Institute of Banking.

He was appointed vice president and trust officer of the American National Bank and trust officer of Chattanooga in 1973. He married Joan Tegthof in 1968. Surviving are his wife; sons, Craig, Andrew and Scott, all at home; daughter, Janet, at home; brother, Robert of Greenville; sisters, Mrs. Shirley Roadman of Glen Ellyn; Mrs. Mildred Ingram of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Herschel Simpson Simpson Herschel John Simpson, 39, of 1119 W. Forest Ave. died 12:20 p.m. Wednesday (April 4, 1979) in Barnes Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in North Jasper Church of Christ. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in J.J. Moran Sons Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Simpson was born in Decatur, son of Herschel J. and Victoria Cruz Simpson Sr. He was a pattern maker at Wagner Castings Co.
