m 4 , ' t f t 4 i y On Broadway 'Re-Education of Horse Johnson': A Whopping Bore Beatles Selling Exclusive Homes Fr? Dae. 20, 1 9&9 - Stockton (Calif.) IH 25 By WILLIAM GLOVER NEW YORK (AP) - An appalling exercise in boredom opened Wednesday night at Broadway's B e 1 a s c o Theater with a title as inane as its content, "The Sudden and Accidental Re-Education of Horse Johnson." It was written starting in 1960 by Douglas Taylor, a man of extended endeavor in television and has since been through workshop production at the Actors Studio, staging by the Eugene ONeill Foundation and performance by the Milwaukee Repertory under a Rockefeller Foundation grant. Four sponsors teamed up to deliver it to the White Way. Rarely has such sustained preparation been lavishd on such a banal pile of dramatic stupidity. The central character, played with stubborn desperation by Jack Klugman, is a middleaged nebbish who quits pushing crates around a San Francisco warehouse to ponder the mean ing of life in his wife's kitchen. Between dialogue snatches of Thoreau, Whitman, Shelley, Keats and other stalwarts from a boy's guide to philosophy, various people come and go through Robert D. Mitchell's walkup set without generating a flutter of interest. Our un-hero gets disillusioned en route to the final curtain which has him once more kissing his neglected spouse and reaching for the lunch pail. Kathleen Maguire, doing a slightly youthful Impersonation of Perl Kelton; Mitchell Ryan, William Bogcrt, Fred Kareman apd Jill Clayhurgh share the lugubrious ordeal with Klugman under George Morrison's heavy-handed direction. It was an evening to regret. Maty Stuart, Queen of Scots, was bom Dec. 7, 1542. LONDON (AP) Beatles John Lennnn and Ringo Starr, who startled the stockbroker belt when they moved into the exclusive St. George's Hill estate at Weybridge near London, are selling their homes there. Both arc now using other residences. Agents are asking more than $120,000 for Ringo's house and $96,000 for Lennon's.
