Holding steer is Ronnie Schaefer, 17, of Carluvville. Carlinville AngusChosen GrandChamp By GEORGE LEIGIITY Telegraph Staff Writer CARROLLTON - An Angus raised by Ronnie Schaefer of Carlinville was chosen, grand champ ion in the 4-H Club and Future Farmers of America steer show at Carrollton Sales Barn Tuesday night. An auction followed the show. The steel' was bought by Columbiana Seed Corn Co. for 35 cents a pound. Schaefer, 17, bought the steer as a calf last .fall in an auction at the same place. I£ was sold by Ruylc's Angus Farm at Roodhouse. Reserve Champion Preserve champion of the show was a shorthorn raised by John Gibbons, 13, o£ Delhi, Jersey County. Terry Gibbons, 11, brother, was sixth In the final judging with another shorthon and was second in the breed division. The top six, in the final judging, all breeds, in addition to the grand and reserve ^champions: Bob Moore, Jersey County, Hereford; David Young, Jersey County, Hereford; William -K1 a u s, Macoupin County, Angus; Terry Gibbons, Jersey County, Shorthorn. The top Hereford, shown by Bob Moore, was bought by Pete Castelli of the Alton-Fosterburg area, owner of the Moonlight Restaurant, for 35 cents a pound — the same as was paid for the grand champion. All of the 72 steers exhibited at the show were auctioned, bringing from 25 to 27 cents a pound, slightly higher than the prevailing St. Louis market rale. The Top Five The top five Angus were shown by Schaefer, Klaus, Terry John son, Barbara Walsh and Catherine Berger. The top five shorthorns: John Gibbons, Terry Gibbons, Leona Goeddey' Jim Wedekind and Mary Goeddey. The top five Herefords, Bob Moore, David Young, Roger Loy, Barbara Walsh and Terry Walsh. Judge was Bob Sakhardt o£ the Royal Packing Co. of St. Louis. H. Erwin Davis of Jerseyville was sale manager and Kendall Seely of White Hall was auctioneer.
