TV Moving Toward Reality^ But Bj CYNTHIA LOttftV AI' Tplevlslon-Rntllo tVriter HOLLYWOOD (API—The popular phrase used to describe most of the fall's new television season Is "closer to reality." Closer than what is not stated, but the presumption must be last year's shows. However, in at least one area television seems to be moving fa (her and farther away from reality. By my count, there will be only five series next season featuring married couples—not counting the cartoon "Flintstones. Every last one is a comedy. There's Danny Thomas, Dick Van Dyke, Joey Bishop, Donna Reed and Ozzie and Harriet, whose merry port 'ait of suburban life will expend lo three couples now that son Rick has taken a spouse. Newcomer to the married group will be "Glynis," also played for uughs. As every single girl over 25 is well aware, the rarest forms of human life arc eligible, mature bachelors and, perhaps even more so, attractive, eligible widowers. They abound in television. Tall, handsome, susceptible bachelors are so common In tele- vision that it Is impossible to count them. By incomplete figures, there will be nt least 14 widowers. Among television widowers who, if the writers have their way, will remain uncaught this season are Andy Griffith, Jed Clampett of ''Beverly Hillbillies," Judge Garth of "The Virginian." the father of "My Three Sons," Lawrence Preston of "The Defenders." Dr. Gillespie, and, ol course, the champion of them all Ben Cartwright of "Bonanza" who had been a widower three times before the show started. Only about five tuning up on the widows will be home screens two of them in "The Lucy Show.' with co-star Vivian Vance playing a divorcee. Then there's 1 Thorpe in "The Nurses." Bea Bcnadcret will be a widow with two children in "Petticoat Junction," and Pamela Britton will be a widowed boarding house ownci who (alls in love with a visitoi from outer space in "My Favorite Martian." 2 Children Tf eatetl At Jersey Hospital JERSEYVILLE - James Collins, 3-year-old son of Mr. arid Mrs. David Collifis of Jersey' ville, Deceived A cut on the forehead when he fell out of a truck at his hotfte Friday eVehifig.
