Check Pant^ Shelves Fall Is Time That iTt * IT T Til* Afore £//> Jellies I toy RDITH M. Fall is the time wheti \ve check out palitry shelves and wonder If we have a large enough supply of jams and jellies. We like to have not only enough for our own use, but also some for favorite friends at Christmas time. One of the favorite jams or conserves, as we often call it, is ginger pear. The Original recipe called for ginger root which cannot always be found easily. In this case we can make use of preserved or candled ginger, either of which will add the desired flavor. Everyone likes pickled pears, and the small Seckle variety are especially well liked. These do not need to be pared before they are combined with a spicy syrup. If you like, the pears may be studded with cloves. If you see a basket of these pears in the market, do not overlook them since they need not be used immediately if they are kept in a cool place. If you find any Concord grapes in the market, you may like to make use of some of them in jam — both the pulp and the skins are used for this. The pulp should be cooked slowly until the seeds rise to the top. Then the mixture should be pressed through coarse sieve.
