The safe boating course will begin on Oct. 7 at the Clear Lake Elementary School. 1707 Fairwind Slreet in Clear Lake City. Registration will start at 7 p.m. and the course will continue for six weeks being held each Tuesday from 7 to p.m.

All instruction is free. There is a nominal charge to cover the cost of the student workbook, chart and other materials. The boating course is offered as a public service to the entire family, including all boys and girls. 12 and over, accompanied by a parent. The course is taught by knowledgeable instructors who are members of the Galveston Bay Power Squadron.

It is not necessary to own a boat. Many take the course before buying a boat to be prepared to use it properly. Those who pass the final examination are awarded a certificate of completion. The course covers outboard, inboard and sail. When this happens, stored natural gas will be essential in order to provide uninterrupted service to customers during times of shortage, Brackeen said. The two salt domes will be able to store enough gas to provide for as much as 500 million cubic feet of gas a day for about a seven day supply, Brackeen said. That 500 million is enough to provide for about half of the company's daily winter needs, he said. Brackeen added that is agressively purchasing natural gas at its current low prices, which is saving its customers money.
