The Big 12 Conference tournament is in April. Most remaining matches are tournaments, including the state Masonic Lodge competition today at Paris. "It's been a fun year," coach Tim Black said. "What we've been talking about is the future with such a young team. I think we have the potential of having a very strong program if the interest stays." MHS has a scholastic team for the first time in three years.

Black said there is a strong program at the junior high that should help generate interest at the high school. "The older students lost interest because they haven't had a team," Black said. "Hopefully we can build on what we've started this year." The team practices after school for 75 minutes twice a week. Many times practices are devoted to areas where weaknesses have been evident. History and literature have been weaker areas, Black said, noting the younger students haven't taken some of the upper-level courses that would be beneficial.
