AtfOM EVENING TELEGftAPH Reports News of Business^ Industry in Area Aulo Salf3s May Dip in 1964 instability of the economic ingredients that are making new records in automobile sales this year may make a substantial downward adjustment next year, according'to V, .Lewis Bassie, director of the University of Illinois Bureau of Economic and Business Research . Effects of the acceleration in automobile output have been fell: throughout American economy and a decline in car sales may produce a deflationary impact of natlbnal significance. Behind the current upsurge in new car sales are factors that do not warrant optimism for a continuing rise in sales, Bassie states in the recent "Illinois Business Review," , Advances in employment and resultant increases In consumer income; heavy flow of savings to financial instiutions and the resultant; competition for consumer installment loans; effect of the stock market recovery as a stimulant on confidence of buyers, lenders, and sellers, all combined with a "not wholly explainable deviation" over the expected total to present a currently bright economic picture, Bassie reports. However, he said, sales tend to suffer year-to-year reversals if the peaks are too high and not even the cushioning effect of a tax cut could prevent a substantial adjustment. \ Conlinenlal House Grand Opening The Continental House Cafuteria and Smorgas- board, now open in Alton Pla/,a, will celebrate its grand opening next Saturday, Sunday and Monday with free orchids for the ladies and gifts for the children. According to Robert Maddox, owner of the Continental House, the building has undergone a complete renovation and will feature a •continental" atmosphere. Interior decoration is by House of Ingrid. The cafeteria will be open daily from 7:30 a.m. Smorgasbord will be featured daily from 4:30-8:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m., offering a variety of over 50 dishes. Garage Owners Hire New Director The "independent Garage Owners of Illinois, at a board meeting in Springfield, has hired an executive director and approved locating its offices in the Capitol city. Martin Leimbach of Alton, the group's president, said" Larry Goddard of Springfield was hired to the new post. Goddard, in addition to his administrative duties, will edit and publish a monthly magazine for IGO members throughout the state. The group will move its ofifces from Chicago to Springfield, Leimbach said, because of Springfield's central location. Fidelity Mutual Sets Record . E. C.
