Today in Washington House Committee Gives Kennedy Choice on Aid By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS WASHINGTON (AP) - In the news from Washington: ARAB AID: The.House Foreign Affairs Committee has included in the foreign aid authorization bill a provision designed to chop off U.S. assistance to the United Arab Republic or other Arab nations receiving Russian military equipment. The decision to cut off the aid would be up to the president. DEFENSE SPENDING: A spokesman for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce called, today for a $3.2 billion cut in President Kennedy's ?52.2 billion defense appropriation request. The spokesman, Wilmer Wright of'New York, told the Senate Appropriations Defense subcommittee that all spending "nuist be held ,-to the lowest possible- level to pave the way for;>a' tax % that would strengthen the, ^economic base that is the real foun elation- of our national, security program." ... English Santa NEW; YORK (#)—Santa Clau is coming to Broadway in the person of British actor Laurence Naismith. Having performed here las season in the hit engagement of The School for Scandal," Naismith is turning from period comedy to jingle bells assign ment in "Here's Love," a musi cal based upon "The Miracle on 34th Street." This typified "Enster" with life-sized rhb- bits around a huge basket of Easier eggs and tore the banner "Hip Hop to Don's." The Democrat-News entry won first In the commercial division. this tlepidod a "Printer's Holiday" wllh everyone hard at work- operating an old fashioned hand press, assisted by a red "Printer's Devil." Second in commercial bracket went to "Ron's Bridal Catering Service." A bridal gown in keep- ing with each of the year's seasons was displayed on a live model, each arranged in shadow box effect. In the "Organization and Church" division first prize went to the Jaycee-Jayce-ette entry entitled "Every Day Is a Holiday." A picnic scene, swim party and other recreational projects were arranged on the float. The Jayees are presently engaged in promoting a community swimming pool in Jerseyvllle. The Jerseyville ft a i n b o w Assembly won second place in this division, their theme being built around the Fourth of July. "Liberty" was the keynote of the setting, with young women in dresses of red, white and blue, firecrackers and flags furnishing the decor. The trophy in' the Auto and Truck division went to Smith Motors and in the and Equipment Division, the winner was fsringhatisen Implement Co. In the Equestrian division trophies went to Mrs. Hargiss Mn- holland and William Houseman- YOU paint them and SAVE!
