, JOLV, 9,1963 A1/P6N EVENING' Obituaries Hackett Mrs. Ida Haekett, 91, R resident of Alton since childhood, died at 5:10 a.m. today at the borne of n soii-lii-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gratti, 800 Park Drive. She had beeti )tl falling health for h yfcaf, but seriously ill only a short time. The former Ida Shockley, she was born Dec, 19, 1871, at Carlinville. She moved with her parents to Alton In childhood and attended the Alton schools. She was married to John Hackett In 1891 in Alton and for SO years previous to making her home with her son-in-law and daughter, had resided at 1024 East Broadway, She had been at the Graul home lor 30 years. In addition to her daughter, Mrs. Graul, she Is survived by four other daughters, Mrs, Charles Fritz, Alton; Mrs. Frances Sheeran, and Mrs. Clarence Hopkins, St. Louis, and Mrs. Nathan Davis, East Peoria; a son, John, Alton; a twin brother, Ora Shockloy, Cincinnati, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, and seven great- grandchildren. Her husband died March 2, 1931. Mrs. Hackett was a member of St. Patrick's Parish and funeral services Thursday at 0 a.m. will be conducted in the church. Buri. al will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery. The body is al Suilcn Chapol where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. EMPLOYMENT JO 20 — 10 SALESMAN Slow In ill health for more than a year, Burcn E. Slow, a construction worker died Monday at 4:55 p.m. in St. Joseph's Hospital. He entered the hospital seven weeks ago, Mr. Slow, who was 57, resided at 600 Wyss St. He moved to Alton 24 years ago from Eldorado. He was born in Eldorado April 20, 1906, a son of the late" Mr. and Mrs, Gar T. Slow. Surviving are his wife, the former Lorine Shacklett to whom he was, married in 3923 at Mt. Vernon, Ind., a daughter, Mrs. Dolores Nailor, Wood River; two sons, G. T. Slow, Alton, and Elmore Slow, Hartford; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Walker, Harrlsburg, and Miss Loran Slow, Eldorado, and six grandchildren. The body is at Streeper Funeral Home where services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. Watkins, retired Medora business man and former Alton- Ian, collapsed and died Monday evening while cutting grass at his home in Medora. Earlier in the day ho had painted ceilings at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where remodeling work is In progress. Mr. Watkins, who was 74, was born in Medoru, July 26, 1888. His parents wore the late Mr. and Mrs. William Watkins. Ho had operated a grocery and feed store in Medora for some 4C yours, and after retiring had resided in Alton for U years. He ulso hud boon in Carlinville for six yours and at Jerseyville for one your. Mr. Watkins was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and Royal Neighbors of America Lodge. He is survived by his widow, the former Hattie Barnes of Medora, lo whom he was married in 1911; a daughter, Mrs. Florence Maple, Kemper; a son, Carl, Wood River; a brother, Enos Watkins, Alton; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. A daughter and two sisters died previously. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Medora, followed by burial in Medora Cemetery. The body is at Warner Funeral Home, Medora, where friends may call after 7 p.m. today. Dixon, 84, of 2203 Ridge Dr., died at 5:30 a.m. today Sn Alton Memorial Hospital where she had been taken at 10 p,m. Monday. Mrs. Dixon, the widow of Shelby Dixon, had been in ill health for some time and a patient in St. Anthony's Hospital recently for two weeks. The former Jennie Lyons, she was born in Wyoming, 111., June 22, 1879, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Lyons. Her marriage to Shelby Dixon took place at Council Bluffs, Iowa, Sept. 16, 1911. She had lived in Alton for 31 years and was a member of College Avenue Presbyterian Church and of Royal Neighbors of America Lodge. ' Survivors are two sons, William, Alton, and Roy, Brockport, N.Y.: four grandchildren, and two great- grandchildren. Beside her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane, and a brother and a sister. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Morrow-Quinn Mortuary by the Rev. Henry. Moore, pastor of College Avenue Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park. Friends may call at the mortuary alter 6 p.m, Wednesday. A former Altonian, Wilbur Joseph Kennedy, 54, died Sunday at Fresno, Calif, according to word received by Alton relatives. He was a brother of LaVerne, Kenneth' and Dale Kennedy, Al : ton, and of Mrs. Don Carlson, Pois terville, Calif. Survivors beside his brothers and sister are his wife, the former Thelma Payne of Alton, and a son, William . Mr/Kennedy, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William J. Kennedy, had been employed by Western Cartridge Co., predecessor of Olin Mathieson Chemical Corp., before moving to California some 18 years ago. Funeral services with military honors were conducted Monday at Brighton for Frank T. Carr, a World War I veteran. Rites at Medora Cometery were conducted by members of Alton Barracks 986, World War I Veterans. The Rev. A. W. Duncan officiated at services at 1:30 p.m. in Warner Funeral Home.
