This was to have marked 'the opening of the Algona high school track season and the Garrigan baseball season. The Bears were to have opened at Forest City Thursday but that game has been cancelled as well as home games here, next week with Newman and Mason City high school. "We'll have a problem rescheduling these games," said Coach Pat Daugherty Tuesday. "We have a sectional tournament scheduled here after our regular season closes and even if we get beat the first round, our diamond is committed.'! Daugherty, a dyed-in-the-wool baseball man, was somewhat ^dejected over the turn of the events. He said his squad had practiced very little this spring, even in the gym since it was used by the play practice for "Camelot" most of the time until Tuesday. He said his squad would begin workouts in the gym Tuesday and outside as soon as weather permits. MEANWHILE things weren't much different for Algona high school track coach Arnie Hill. His squad was to have opened at Eagle Grove Tuesday of this week with a Triangular meet. That meet was cancelled and the 18-team Eagle Grove Relays dated for next Tuesday will also most certainly be postponed or cancelled. The Bulldogs are not scheduled for any competition again until April 23 and by then it is hoped .things will have improv ed. It can't get any worse — the Algona track in the east part of town is underwater and only running done by Bulldog atlv letes has been around the school area on sidewalks and streets. Golf? Tennis? Out of the question thus far! BOB FELLER, the former Cleveland Indian fireball pitcher, was beseiged by well wishers and autograph fans after his speech at the Garrigan high school athletic banquet ' • . * # # ' Over 500 athletes, cheerleaders, coaches, parents and friends attended the annual Bolster Club banquet. Everett Barr served as toastmaster and there was a presentation of awards by Athletic Director Bill Brennan, Football Coach Beanie Cooper, Basketball Coach Steve McCall, Baseball Coach Pat Daugherty and Track Coach Jim Ritz. There were also musical selections by the sophomore chorus and two members of the •'Camelot" cast. Feller, now in business in Cleveland, told of several hu morous baseball experiences and talked off the cuff for about 30 minutes. He said he hunted in Kossuth county, particularly in the Titonka area, several times years ago. FOLLOWING ARE major letter winners at Garrigan as announced at the banquet Thursday: Football — Russ Bierl, Louie last Thursday night. Feller spoke about 30 minutes at the banquet after awards were presented. Exclusive Advance Photo by Mike Stillman.
